2002 SS auto 1/4 mile?

Hi, my friend has an 2002 Camaro SS automatic with these mods:
-SLP Lid
-granatella MAF
-shift kit (on softest setting)
-flow tech exhaust cut out after the cats
-flowmaster catback

He claims that he can run a high 12 - low 13, i find this hard to believe, what kind of time do you think this can get?

oh yeah, he also has a 100 lb sound system

Drew778/94Z Feb 24, 2003 08:04 PM

With a good 60ft he will :)

ricekiller95 Feb 24, 2003 08:04 PM

MM and FF ran a Z28 and got a 12.8 in it. Then they ran an SS and got a 12.9 in HOT weather. With decent air they said it would have ran 12.7s or better.:D

EDIT. The reason it does not feel as fast is the LS1 is more of a top end motor.

so what about my dad's stock c5?

Geeterman Feb 24, 2003 09:23 PM

He can easily hit 12s. I hit my 12.9 when I had just exhaust, lid, maf ends and a pulley. And that was with a crappy 2.17 60 foot time, hence the 108.4 mph. He should at least be able to hit low 13s. As for the stock corvette, it should be low 13s, although I've never seen a stock c5 do better than 13.4 at the track.

I raced my buddies bone stock 99 and just barley beat him in the 8th (street) firts LS1 car I ever ran:bow: I was shocked he was starting to inch on me when we had to shut them down we both were on street tires and his does not have any boltsons it is a WS6 Raim air.. I have seen LS1's run at my local track and most dont fair to good must be the driver:confused: I know one thing my LS1 bashing stoped tonight ;)

how does a camaro with the same engine and less hp. also weighs a lot more get a better time then a vette, doesnt make sence to me, oh well..

Drew778/94Z Feb 25, 2003 12:17 AM

I've almost all the C-5's I've raced and even beat a ZO6 n/a.

Before I got the converter I was running 12.9's on the stock F-1's.

It's all about the driver and traction, my '94 Z-28 felt stronger then my SS, but it's not!!! ;)

Power is actually just about equal. As a matter of fact Camaros have actually dynoed higher than vettes on numerous occasions. Why? What the Corvette makes in power using true dual exhaust, the Camaro makes up in having a sold rear axle.

The solid rear axle also helps with traction. Both of those factors lead to the Camaro being a better drag car. Vettes make better all around sports cars.

LMAO, it was a great race though. Neck and neck they went. It was sad to see a bone stock LS1 keep up with ya Sean. I still say you should have juiced him, but I was made a believer last night. LS1's rule:bow: stock to stock:mods to mods.

First, read this article from Hot Rod magazine.

http://www.geocities.com/sigmachi03/ls1power.html

The reason the F-body dyno'd higher has to do with the fact that its crank horsepower is nearly identical to the Corvette (Vette has true dual exhaust, F-body has Y-pipe setup, Vette cam is marginally bigger). In reality, there is probably a 15 horsepower difference at the crank. Add in the fact that the F-body has a solid rear axle, while the Vette has an IRS. The Vette is something like 200lbs ligher, but has run-flat tires stock which are not very good at the dragstrip; the F-body tires aren't great by any stretch but they're better than run-flats.

All this adds up to a pretty even race at the dragstrip.

I have the following : 2002 Sunset Orange SS, A4, Whisper MAF ends & Lid, NOS 5177 dry kit, K&N, Synthetic Oil, BMR STB, Free Ram Air mod, SLP Loudmouth.

My NA time: 12.90@108.85

My 99 WS6 T/A A4 with the same lid, exhaust ran 12.97 @ 107. Easy to do.....

Both these cars were on Goodyear stock F1's with 2.0 60' times....

 Do you want to help me pick some Lottery numbers? You've definitely got some good luck in picking your cars. A4's with your mods running 107-109mph trap speeds!

I wish mine would hit 104mph, and I've got more mods than you!
