Question How many of you have mixed fuel - I.E. run the cheapie stuff ?

I am currently experimenting - I filled up last night from 3/4 tank w/ *GASP* the cheap stuff !!

Just curious as to how much of a performance dent I will see.

I don't plan on doing this all the time - just cheap last night, and in the mood to try something different.

Later !

Britt

I never use the cheapie stuff, I rather walk then let my baby use that skanky gas. Besides the car pretty much requires the good stuff I think.

around town or at the track you may find the car a bit sluggish. but the knock sensor system will detect any knock and pull timing if need be. so there should not be any damage.

filling a 1/4 tank of low octane will probably only drop your total octane level 1 or 2 hole points...93 down to 91ish.

on the highway, like road trips i will run 89 or so...cause you really don't need the high octane for sustain cruising. but around town i always use 93 or 92.

Since about November, I've been running only 87 octane in my car. No, I'm not -ing either. I took the Hypertech "power tuning" out of my computer, because it forced me to run 94 octane last summer, and because all I've been doing is driving back and forth to work in cold weather, the car has been running fine. I think once when it got milder I put in about 3/4 tank of 89 octane, but otherwise, I've only heard momentary pinging once or twice, so I said "screw it", and my car has been running happily on 87.

If someone really disagrees with me for this, let's pull apart my engine and show me what damage I've done, because trust me, I believe it will show ZERO damage. Heck, 2 weeks ago I set the all-time mileage record for my car! 501 kms on 1 tank of gas! (that's 310 miles). You can't convince me that the motor isn't working good.

I have an 00 Z28, 6 speed manual, 16.8 gallon fuel tank. I use 91 octane, and always get 300+ miles per tank. If I got less, it would be time for a tune up.

300+ what? I have a 2002 z28 with 35,000 miles and I run 91 octane and I only get about 277 to 280 per tank...
Also I ran 94 octane and it felt like my car ran alot stronger??? I usually always use shell 91 octane but the 94 octane fuel did make the car feel faster.

16 gallons x 20 mpg = 320. i usually get 20/21 mpg average. i dont beat on my car constantly. the best i've got was 25 mpg all highway driving about 60/65 mph. (pre tune) after my tune which i can smell a diff in the exhaust the best i've had was 24 mpg all highway & cool temp. ps i DONT believe the people that say they get 30 mpg w a ls1 v8. cheers.

im glad your getting 20 mpg. if anybody thinks they get 30 please prove it. by that i mean fillup at your fav station & remember the pump #, post your beginning milage here. then take your time driving & when empty go back to the very same station & pump. post your milage & # gallons for fill. let us do the math. thx ps i stopped going to a diff website because a moderator didnt like me arguing about 30 mpg & bone stock 4th gens running 12's. no tune, stock exhaust, stk air filter etc. rapid motorsports ran a 13.3 baseline test 99. cheers.
