Re: 180 stat
so do i...
i'll let you figure out with what.... you've posted several times about lower stats...what ELSE do you need to know? getting one will lower your running temp, this will result in less loss of hp due to heat, sitting in traffic or at the track this will not help any you'll need a fan switch or fan setting change for those situations, for everyday driving and light traffic the factory settings are fine, the 180 is a good compromise for a winter driven car. |
Re: 180 stat
Get a 160 instead. Mine puts out about as much heat as the stock t-stat did for the winter, and you won't run into any problems down the road if you get a tune. Also, no need to get a fan switch unless you have your fans programmed to come on earlier. Just turn your AC on to get them to come on. Works for me. :)

"Also, no need to get a fan switch unless you have your fans programmed to come on earlier."
don't you mean "unless you DON'T have your fans programmed"?? the fan switch takes the place of the reprogammed fans in most situations where the fans are needed...heavy traffic or at the track. i don't see why everyone thinks new fan settings are required. who cares about the added 3-5hp from a cooler engine when you are in HEAVY traffic? now the track is a different story...so just get a fan switch! and the A/C idea is fine, but that also drips water...a bad thing at the track...that's why most of them have a sign to turn the AC off. as far as i'm concerned, if the factory fan temps are designed to keep the car from overheating and ruining something...than why wouldn't they be sufficient for that purpose after a lower stat is installed?? the lower stat will allow better cooling when it matters, when driving! NOT sitting in traffic! and the addition of the fan switch will take care of those few times that you need the cooler temps but are not moving (track)...or just prevention on REALLY hot days and INSANE traffic. |
Re: 180 stat
I just meant that if you don't get a tune from pcmforless or madz28 and have them set the fans to come on sooner, you still have some control over the fans by turning on the AC to make them kick on. BTW, I just got my tune from Madz28 (highly recommended) and he set the fans to come on low at 189 degrees and high at 199. You don't really need the fans to come on sooner, but if you get a tune from one of these 2 vendors, why not have the fans come on sooner? I just got my tune for more power (spark advance) and and to get rid of CAGS and had EGR, AIR, and the rear O2's disabled for when I put LT's on this winter
