The slp cold air kit was my first choice too but then I did some research and found out that slp lids have had problems fitting right, bellows is a waste of money and the slp CAI is far from the best performing one you can get. After two weeks of researching dyno charts and forums I would reccomend you get this instead.

1). TSP lid from texas speed & performance because they should get you 15hp instead of 7-10hp that the slp lid would. Just remember the clear and smoked colored ones are high demand so you may be waiting 4-8 weeks for delivery. The black or carbon fibre however you can get a lot quicker.

2). SSRA (super sucker ram air kit) instead of FTRA/SLP CAI. SSRA is a two piece box scoop unit that will seal to your air box and allow colder outside air to be sucked into your engine causing better HP gains then the other CAI's that only draw air from behind the radiator.

3). Loudmouth is an excellent choice for sound and performance as long as you want it really loud which most of us do. I say get the loudmouth or if you want all the performance gains but not quite loud enough to wake the dead then try dynomouth.

loudmouth $300.00
tsp lid $150.00
SSRA $200.00
shipping for all three $ 50.00

Now with the remaining $500 (or $650 of you did dynomouth) I would say maybe look at upgrading gears or save a few hundred more and get a good torque converter (if you have an A4), upgrade your clutch (if you have an M6).

Good luck and have fun with whatever you buy

a good lid and filter, then headers. if you plan to do much time at the track and add much power forget doing gears for IMHO it is a waste of time and money. are the fun on the street? you bet!! but the stock 10 is not really worth upgrading IF you plan to race a lot, save for a 12 bolt or 9"

Skip the suspension stuff for now. Build the muscle first: motor, tranny and rear end upgrades. THEN figure out what suspension mod's you need for the muscle upgrades.
Have fun, but stay safe!

Best,
Daryl

StylezZ28,

Hmmm, that's what I thought too. I posted a "should I get headers" thread when I first joined this forum. But, much to my suprise, the overwhelming response was that headers on the LS1's aren't the best "bang for the buck" performance investment. I was suprised because I always go to the headers and air induction as Step 1 on performance upgrade with practically every vehicle I've ever owned.
Headers WILL help, I recall being told repeatedly, but they apparently are NOT the best upgrade for the money.

Maybe it depends on what year? Probably the older cars would benefit more from headers than the newer (LS1's) would? I know that headers on a '67-'72 are practically obligatory to Bow Tie fans who own 'em...

Just my $.02

The best gain is going to be from a cam. You'll need the headers to make it breathe better. Here is a list of my dyno numbers with the costs for each mod.

Stock 299rwhp
SLP lid and K&N=311rwhp($150 for the combo)
Super Sucker Ram Air(SSRA)=324rwhp($200)
TPIS LT headers=339rwhp($800)
Comp cam/push rods/918 springs=394rwhp($625)

I'd go with a lid, Super Sucker, LT headers, and a cam.

well i dont think ill be running on the track. so i need most of my mods for street. ill defitely run with a lid. ssra or ftra? gears is a must definitely. as far as cams, im not too sure which cam works best. but ill save the cam stuff for later. im just looking for the best bolt ons for street. i figured out which headers i want to run after your guys help with all my posts. do i really need to mess with my my rear end?

Go with SSRA over FTRA.

slp loudmouth, ssra, TSP lid, holley air filter, 3.73 or 4.10 gears, ASP pulley. That should get you a nice power boost for the street. Then if you feel the need for more you can save up for cams, headers, rearend/suspension upgrades and make that kind of a stage two mods. Thats my plan anyway for my car.

Good Luck

well my set up is lid, ram air , loudmouth, coated hooker headers, y pipe w/cats, 3.73 gears. pulleys i hear they are good and they arent. for example i hear if u you have pulleys and are daily driver it wil mess up your alternator? so im still unsure. but that will be my first set of bolt ons then ill get suspension all hooked up. hopefully texas speed will hook all these mods up close to 1200. thanks for all your help. hey do any of you know any sites where i can get the WS6 ram air raptor style hood for camaro other than carhood or techhood for a cheaper price?

If you plan on having a thumping stereo don't get the pulleys.
