Angry Why the hell did I buy a friggin black car >RANT<!!!

(Edit) This probably belongs in the paint section, so sorry in advance since I can't move it now....

Well, the family has made it back to the mainland (SE Georgia) safe and sound! The furniture made it OK for the most part and the wife's bike ('04 Fatboy) even made it there great!

So why the F*** did I pay nearly $1800 bucks for a "professional" to ship my car, just to have them scratch the hell out of it!!! I guess that's what I get for buying a damn black car that shows EVERYTHING!!

I spent nearly 2 hours at the terminal here in Oahu, inspecting the car with the shipping rep. He tried his best to find hits on the car, even asking "is that the original mileage?!" (4082 at drop off on my '02 SS Convertable) and finally circling the car's interior and exterior diagrams on his form and putting a big ZERO on the form! Finally, I'm thinking, all of the work and pouring over my baby, and someone appreciates it! Well, at various points in transit, they managed to scratch up every panel on the car !! Thank God I am still in Hawaii and my wife took delivery of the car on the other end, I would have come un-glued!!!

Now I think the real fun is just beginning. My wife took the car to the local dealership that operates its own body shop. To our surprise, they have a pretty good reputation in the area and do a full estimate. $1700 to do the job right and sand, shoot and finish the whole car!

The shipping company sent out an appraiser to look at the car. He told Weez (my wife) the body shop was full of BS and everything could be buffed out easily (and cheaply- saving THEM a ton of $$$$)! When Weez said that buffing (all of the clear coat off) the car was NOT an acceptable fix, he said he didn't understand what the big deal was, and that the car had had lots of body work and really wasn't worth all of this hassle ! Glad I wasn't there again- he would have been introduced to a steel-toed RedWing suppository!! I bought the car new off the lot with 12 miles on it; guess they were REAL hard miles from what he said (LOL)! Amazing how much body work we had done to the car that I just can't seem to recall!!!

Weez just faxed the original estimate from the body shop to the shipping company's offices. Just waiting now to see their answer. Can you tell I'm pissed!!!

Sorry, rant over..... I feel better now. Figured the folks here would understand..... Gawd I hate moving.

I need a beer....

Allen

because black cars scare democrats and hippys!

sorry to hear about the car

btw, got back from hi a few monthes ago....spent time w/ my bro in ewa beach. nice out there. liked how everything is either a hotrodded car or lifted truck, hated the traffic on h-1. not very impressed by duane dog chapman's bail shop, even though he is willing to take a few secs to say hi to fans (especially if they are your girlfriend with a big rack) got my *** kicked hard at the north shore by all the freakin 15 foot breakers, kinda funny to see 10 year olds surfing it. good luck on the car and muhalo from a crazy howli

Thats horrible, hope everything works out, maybe its time to settle it in small claims court if the company doesn't ante up.

Instead, hit them where it REALLY hurts . . . In the bank account. If they don't satisfy you 100%, take them to Small Claims Court. That will get their attention!

yeah, I was stationed in HI and when I shipped a Stratus that I had from there to Los Angeles, I had one bit of peeled paint on the rear bumper, when I picked it up neither of the two passenger windows worked, the doors and fender had dents on the passenger side, my passenger side mirror was ripped off and there was a 4 inch long one inch wide and half inch deep gouge on my front bumper. JAG at Ft Drum helped me get all my stuff fixed by the shipping company, cost them over 5 grand for everything, the car at the time blue booked at $6,100, so they came close to buying me a new car. so yeah hit them hard where it hurts.

That shates funny, don't care who 'ya are!! Maybe that's the real reason I bought it . Black is a PITA, but DAYUM it's sharp when clean!!

Mahalo from another haole. I won't miss the H-1 traffic either; who the hell builds interstate highways when they don't connect to another state! On the other hand, nothing like dropping the top and cruising the windward coast then hammering it going thru the tunnels on H-3!

You're right about all of the modded rides out here. I still think it's funny when I'm putting along and some clown in his/her fart-can wearing Sentra/Civic/Eclipse (insert favorite here) comes along side and wants to get ignorant. My car is bone stock; these clowns with thousands in these POS's just dont understand.... especially when they try it at about 30 (my personal favorite).....

Still no response from them. The JAG assist may be a good move if they get resistant.

Just 46 days to go till I'm home......

I work at a detail shop at the local Honda (I know Honda ) But I've had a lot of experience with buffing. If the insurance company wants to try and screw you over by having it buffed, tell them to kiss your . Buffing is actually the art of heating up your clear coat with a spinning pad, in order to spread it out, and hence, cover up a clearcoat scratch. Thats why it won't work on a deep paint scratch. But buffing a whole car because they screwed up is . All that will do is thin out your clearcoat, and make the car easier to scratch. So, keep fightin', and get it fixed right.
