where is the power steering resevoir?
hi, I was hoping someone could help me with this. I have a 1996 Formulia Firebird with the LT1 engine. I can not find the power steering reservoir. the car has 96,000 miles and I wanted to check it ant probably change it. can you tell me how to get to it, and what kind of fluid it requires. I try to run OEM, so I want the AC-Delco if I can figure what one to get. as from my owners manual the OEM numbers from back then was 1052884 for the pt. and 1050017 for the qt.
any help will be appreciated. thanks in advance- Scott |
Re: where is the power steering resevoir?
The power steering reservoir is bolted to the front of the passenger side inner fender, right behind the battery. Rectangular black plastic box, mounted vertically.
Location and fluid spec is covered in section 6 & 7 of your Owner's Manual. Free download, if you don’t have one: https://my.gm.com/content/dam/gmowne...rs.pdf#page242 |
Re: where is the power steering resevoir?
thank you for your help. I don't know how I missed it. but thanks again. I was not able to confirm the new AC-Delco fluid, so I think I am going to use the Perstone Synthetic Power Steering Fluid AS264Y. do you guys see any issues with this choice?
thanks again Scott |
Re: where is the power steering resevoir?
Here's an Auto Zone PS fluid which indicates it meets GM 1050017/1052884 and 9985010 standards.
https://www.autozone.com/brake-and-p...uid/828028_0_0 Also indicates is meets GM 9985010, which I found as a replacement for the above GM numbers. Apparently 1052884 was replaced with 89020662, which was then replaced with 9985010. |
