Being a pretty dedicated 3rd gen guy I really don't know about the 4th gens to much. I thought the engines were the Lt1 and LS1 98 and later. What is an LT4?

The LT4 is a slightly more powerful (330hp) LTx motor made for the Corvette's final 4th generation appearance in 96 with the Grand Sport and 6-speed cars after the ZR1 was discontinued in 95. About 100 97 Camaro SS's and just under 30 WS.6 T/A's were made if I remember correctly with the LT4. LT4's had full roller rockers, raised runner heads, no EGR and thats basically where the differences end from the LT1.

There are quite a few differences between an LT1 and an LT4 motor...

Just found this info at http://www.f-body.org/faq/4/4_1.htm :
SS/LT4 - available only in 1997 with all of the standard and optional SS equipment, but the LT1 was replaced by a balanced and blueprinted LT4 engine with 330 HP. Additionally, they got a new stainless steel exhaust system and exhaust manifolds, and a new Bilstein performance suspension set-up. The cars had to be special ordered as 30th Anniversary cars with a 6-speed transmission, and no T-tops or convertible, and they were then sent to SLP for modification. Production was limited to 100 cars.

I'd say more like LT4 = LS1, and that is debatable. Stock vs stock they both dyno around 300 rwhp, I would question whether the LT4 can match the LS1 mod for mod, but it should still end up fairly close (as the heads flow about the same on both). You get into porting heads and I think the LS1/6 heads would come out on top but I'm not sure...Originally Posted by Shackleford

Did God Himself manifest the LT4, as we all know He did with the LS1?Originally Posted by Shackleford

That is the question you must answer.

LT4 + C4 + gears = 12's

The LS1 will end up being more mod friendly, and ultimately make more power. Ported LT4 heads are not going to outflow ported LS6 heads.Originally Posted by Ray86IROC
