want to upgrade my 2002 z28 camaro.
I want to upgrade my 02 z28 so its louder (a nice engine roar) and faster but don't know where to start. everything on it now is stock, it has 113,000 miles and is an automatic. My skill level with cars is general maintenance and swapping out some parts that went bad (no welding experience). Any help is appreciated.

It really comes down to budget, and how much of an improvement you are looking for. Best first steps are a new high performance airbox lid or full replacement for the air box, opening up the base of the airbox for improved breathing, and a catback exhaust with a full 3" mandrel-bent intermediate pipe. The SLP Loudmouth I will definitely make it sound louder.

Does your car have an automatic or manual trans? If automatic, which rear axle do you have - 2.73 (GU2) or 3.23 (GU5)? The three letter RPO code will be on the service parts label, in the glove box or on the end of the driver's door. Either way, consider a set of 3.73:1 gears, and a higher stall torque converter. Doesn't add HP, but increases the torque transmitted to the rear wheels, for improved acceleration.
If you have a manual trans, consider a set 4.10:1 gears. If you change the rear axle ratio, you will need to have the PCM reprogrammed, to correct your speedometer.
