Turn Signal Release Spring Question
Turn Signal Release Spring Question
Inside the steering column, are the turn signal release springs for both the right and left turn positions the same spring??? My spring that releases the blinker after turning left has completely come off and I am trying to replace it. The springs I ordered from gmpartsdirect look just like the right turn release spring but I can't figure out how they fit for the left turn signal. If any of y'all have a picture of the turn signal assembly that's inside the column(yellow and white plastic on mine) with the springs in that would be GREATLY appreciative.
Hard Question !
I used to fix theft damaged columns for a living, and I still had to look !
See attached - I know it's not the same year, but the switch has not changed much.
I can't see how the 2 would be the same.
Fortunately, they should be easy to come by - it's conceivable that the Help ! product line might even have these.
Good Luck !

Re: Turn Signal Release Spring Question
Perfect, just what I was looking for, and I told gmparts direct it was the LEFT release spring, and they sent me the right one... go figure.
I have one more question for you NEWBIE T/A, I need to move that whole assembly in your picture back so I can replace my lock cylinder as well. I need to move it back so it can come over the steering shaft and hang by the wires. I have only been able to move it back very little because the wires at the bottom that run down the shaft don't want to let it move too much, and I was wondering if I unplugged the steering column wires under the dash and tried to push them up from the bottom, do you think that would give me enough wire to be able to pull the assembly back some???
And one more, when replacing the lock cylinder, do I just have to remove that one hex screw then it just slides right out (while the lock cylinder is in the lock position), or do I need to move the lock cylinder into the run or start or accessory position to get it out? The reason I ask is because I believe I have unscrewed that hex screw as far as it can go, but the lock cylinder still seems like it doens't want to come out. Given I didn't spend too much time with the lock cylinder last night b/c I had other stuff I had to do.

You may need to push the little plastic piece that hangs down and activates the key buzzer up w/ a small screw driver to get the switch to come out.
Oh, I suggest tieing a piece of string to the VATs wiring that will be attached to the lock cylinder. When you get the old cylinder out, you can tie the wires on the new to the string allowing you to thread the wires back the way they came out.
The bottom picture on this page shows what I am talking about.
