Transmission Wants to Roll in Park...shifter or transmission?
I recently picked up a 2000 Z28 project car. It's fairly high mileage (164k), and it's clear that the car's had a really hard life. After driving it for the first time, I noticed that the shifter has to be in a certain "sweet spot" when you put it in park, or else the transmission/shifter area makes a grinding noise, and the car wants to roll like it's in neutral. If you wiggle the shifter, it will finally go into park and stop rolling.
Does this sound like it's a problem with the A4 shifter, or is it something in the transmission itself? I've never encountered an automatic that wouldn't stay in park! I'm afraid I'll leave the car, come back, and find it's rolled away!
