Traction control, can it be added on to '94 model F-body?

Traction control, can it be added on to '94 model F-body?

Browsing through the switches and options in my stock PCM with tunercat and noticed there was a switch to enable/disable traction control. Wondering if anyone knows if this can be added on to a 1994 F body(as far as I remember they weren't offered with it) and if so what parts are required. Some of the newer models had a switch on the dash to turn it on and off so I'd guess this would be required at the least.

I have ASR in my car and love it, I love going sideways too =). The best part is, all I have to do is push a button, but when its poring rain...the ASR has saved me many times. As for if you can add it to a 94...I'm sure you can if you buy all the same parts the 95s use. Good luck with your quest. If you get it youll like it.

Seems pretty obvious that with lots of power driving on wet or icy pavement can be very unforgiving. Spinning down the Interstate at 75 MPH isn't fun. It also eases your mind if you want to let a friend or even worse girlfriend drive your 480 horse ditch and telephone pole seeking missile

To actually answer your question, traction control cars have an extra reluctor wheel for 4 channel ABS in the rear, in addition to the TCS module under the hood. You'd have to swap axles, etc.

I'm sure it can be done (anything can be done), it would just take a good bit of work and parts exchanging.

I agree with Javier, and will expand upon what he said a little more... to get traction control and to get it to work correctly you will more then likely need to folowing.
  • Rear out of a ASR/TCS doner car (4ch)
  • Wiring harness from the same/similar doner
  • Solenoid contol system that mounts to the vc
  • New throttle and cruise control cables to work with ASR/TCS
  • wiring up the solenoid control in the front, and interior switches, rear sensors with or without the ASR/TCS wiring harness, because there are diffent wiring of controls between 94 and years above, so esentially you have to blend the parts from the ASR/TCS harness into the parts you still need on the 94 harness and esentially rewire the entire car

With you able to devote all the time (every day) and money (a lot of different little parts, wires etc.) you have at this I see at least a month of downtime and probably at the very least a grand for the entire project...

Like Javier pointed out, anything can be done, my question to you though is do you want it that badly???

Sounds like more than a little bit of trouble, but certainly doable. Might be nearly as cost effective ( if you count your time as being worth anything) to upgrade the ECM to an aftermarket unit with traction control capability. Plenty of food for thought. Thanks for the replies.
