Ignition stuck in on position

Good day. Long time lurker, rare poster.

my 2001 T.A. ignition is stuck in the on position. Car will not shut off and I can't remove the key.
had to dump the clutch and disconnect the battery.
I've wiggled, jiggled, beat, banged, shok/turned the wheel....its stuck.

can I skip/override VATS and ignition and put in a start button and kill switch?
not concerned with theft.
not a daily driver.
2001 T.A. M-6
thanks in advance for any help
Chris

Re: Ignition stuck in on position

The key cylinder connects by a rod to the ignition switch closer to the bottom of rhe steering column. Perhaps the switch is jammed. If that's the case, you may be able to disconnect the rod from the switch, and then see if that frees up the cylinder. If not, the switch is stuck and can be replaced. If it’s actually the cylinder, may be a way to access the cylinder and remove it.... not sure about that part.

This article on replacing the switch has photos that should clarify how all the parts fit together.
