Quick Question. Does anyone that drives a camaro tilt the stearing wheel up when you get out of the car to make room for your legs as you get out?

I dont but my sisters old boyfriend used to do that ever time he got in and out of his old 3rd gen camaro. There's enough room for most people to get in and out without tilting the steering wheel. Im a bigger dude and i have no problems.

Re: Tilting the Steering Wheel?
i knew a guy that drove a third gen and did that everytime he got out, i thought he was kinda weird.

if the wheel is so low that u cant move your legs it could pose a problem if u needed to get out of your car quickly for whatever reason or emergency. i guess it's all your own opinion. but your not driving a go-cart or a civic

Re: Tilting the Steering Wheel?
I do it every time. In the car and in the truck. It gives me more room to get in and out. That is why they built tilt columns in the first place.

I thought they were for other drivers and making it comfortable for your height?

Btw, my wife posted the original post on my account because we were in an argument and I said it was weird that she does that. She will have the damn wheel right on her legs (lower than it being straight out) and then do that.

Also, sorry that she posted that here and not in the F-Body Lounge. Maybe I should start using new passwords...

YOU LET OTHER PEOPLE DRIVE YOUR CAMARO!?!?!?!?!??!?

I dunno; maybe it's just a habit. I do find it a LOT easier to get in and out of the car with it up though.

Re: Tilting the Steering Wheel?
I have my tilt set 1 "notch" above its lowest setting, and that's where it stays.

...until I let my DAD drive the car!? Then I get in and I feel like I'm behind the wheel of a semi!! He always tilts it up full getting in/out, but doesn't have the courtesy to put it back where he found it! I guess that's how women feel about men leaving the toilet seat up??

Re: Tilting the Steering Wheel?
I don't, I put the wheel so I can see all the gauges, then leave it there

Re: Tilting the Steering Wheel?
I tilt it everytime I get in and out of the car.
I,m almost old though at 36 so it helps me get in and out of the car.

I also tilt it almost all the way down to drive, I can,t stand it being up by the windshield.

Re: Tilting the Steering Wheel?
I'm surprised we dont see more failures of the column with all this tilting that everyone says they are doing.

Our columns are prone to failure if they are moved around too much. The tilt mechanism loosens up, the pins can work there ways loose and the bolts can even back themselves out. Also, the wires will get brittle with age and bending them constantly will cause them to break inside their jackets.

I've seen many f-bodies and other GM cars over the years with steering column issues.

I have mine adjusted so it is perfect for me, and that is where it stays. When I purchased my car the column had play in the tilt mechanism. I overhauled the column and now it is like new again. Rebuilding a steering column is not an easy job.
