tail light / brake light weirdness

For the past three years my tail lights, brake lights and rear turning signals have been a little weird. when i don't have the lights on and i use the brakes everything works fine. when i turn the lights on the inner driver side light comes on brighter than the rest of the lights. then when applying the brakes with the lights on the inner passenger side lights dim and the driver's side lights stay the same. the only functioning brake indicator right now is the third brake light.

I have read some threads regarding tail lights and brake lights and i'm going to look into the brake light switch. If the problem is the brake light switch, is it easy to purchase a replacement part?

included below are images of what is going on. any help is IMMENSELY appreciated.

brakes on, lights off
brakes off, lights on
brakes on, lights on

It may be something as simple as the incorrect bulbs installed. Some bulbs have two filaments (hi & lo) and others only one. Check them out!

Re: tail light / brake light weirdness

i have replaced the bulbs several times. i have tried the standard pepboys bulb (sylvania i think), the long life version of the bulb and just about every other 2075 or 3075 (i think that's their number) that they have for sale.

i do get a service code for something that seems like it has to do with the brakes. i don't have the code or description on hand but it says something on the lines of "low input from switch 2". Supposedly my brake calipers are bad (according to firestone service station guy that wanted to get me to pay for a caliper job) and i assumed that the service code was related to the brake caliper problem. When i drive home tonight I will get the exact code and post it later.

Yes. I ordered a new wiring harness from FParts Salvage http://www.fparts.us. It was relatively cheap and very painless to install. The guys at fparts salvage were very helpful and super quick to ship.
