Tach wiring help
I've looked at forum after forum, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have a 97 camaro z28. I'm trying to install a 5" tach. I have power, light comes on with headlights, and a good ground. But no matter where I hook the tach wire to it refuses to work. I tried the white ICM wire and the white wire in the PCM at A13. I've been stumped for days now. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Tach wiring help
Maybe providing info like the brand and model tach you have will help get you an answer.

Re: Tach wiring help
Sorry, didn't think of that. It's a 5" Autometer tach with shift light. Got it from a friend that had a v6 so the brown wire was cut but I soldered it together. Anyone use the crankshaft position sensor wire?

Re: Tach wiring help
The AutoMeter 5" tachs are calibrated for 4 pulses per crank rev. The reluctor in the 96/97 has 4 pulses per crank rev.
Note that different models of the 5" tach can be recalibrated via different methods. No substitute for the manufacturer's install instructions...... http://www.autometer.com/media/2650-1244.pdf Typically, you put the green wire on the coil negative. This is not recommended if you are using a multiple discharge ignition like MSD, Crane, etc. See instructions. |
Re: Tach wiring help
Thanks Fred, I am running stock ignition for the time being. The coil is located in front of the driver side cylinder head correct? This is my first LT1.
