starting with CAI
So i recently bought my moms '94 Z/28. All Stock except for a K&N filter. I know i'd like to start putting some bolt ons on and figured i'd start with the induction. Im thinking about going with the SLP CAI. I was wondering if i could get some comments on how you guys like the system (ones who have/had it). Is it worth the money? Easy to maintain as far as cleaning goes? If im understanding right, i can buy this, and just bolt it right on with no modification to anything correct? There also isnt anything else that i need to buy to make this a complete system is there?

This is what i was looking at, and its about $50 cheaper then on SLP's website. Sorry for the dumb sounding questions, im just trying to make sure i dont screw anything up. I'm trying to keep things nice and simple at this point.
Thanks for the info in advance.

I love my SLP CAI. It's fairly easy to put on, you just need basic hand tools. Taking the splash guard off is the worst part about the installation, and that's pretty dang easy. You really don't even need to jack the car up, althought I'd recommend it.
The filters are pretty easy to clean. All you need is the K&N cleaning and reoiling kit, just make sure you don't over oil it. The filters come pre oiled though.
In my opinion, the SLP is the best looking CAI out there, although people say they can get heat soaked. I've never really noticed this being an issue, though.
If your butt dyno is pretty well tuned, you can notice a difference in power. Plus the sound at higher RPMs is killer!
And remember, the only dumb question is one that goes unasked.

personally i went with a cheaper new one from ebay, its called chromeintakes and fits right under the hood perfectly, pictures in cardomain link in sig, and looks good too. only drawback was when it came in mail there were little pieces of metal inside the tubes but all i needed to do was rinse it out and dry it, also cleaned and oiled the filter before installation but my butt meter is well tuned and noticed a difference in torque and horsepower and sound. go with what you like though and congrats on the car

Butt meter means how it feels on the street as opposed to how it actually measures on the dyno. Usually consists of 1 part comparison and 1 part hoping it does what you want it to do.
I think the SLP CAI looks hokey, like it was made up of leftover exhaust tubing, but if you like it, get it. No tuning is necessary after installing a CAI.

I bought the Lingenfelter supertube for my car. It's the cheapest of the non-ebay intakes out there, and it's definitely pretty basic (a filter, a plastic tube, and the blockoff plate) and it was $160, but it's was absolutely a noticeable gain.
$50 including shipping, mine however did not come with a heat block off plate, if you dont know what that is it is a thin plate the goes around the intake tubing above the filter to block off heat from the engine and exhuast headers. heres a few that are cheap but work fine....

second one is the one i purchased and i can promise 100% i felt the difference, third one comes with the intake elbow but like i and others will say you can simply put a shampoo bottle cap or something else inside the resonator tube of your stock elbow. have fun w/ whatever u get
