Stalled out, won't start

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums, and I just had my 94 Z28 stall out on me heading into a toll booth. I have only had the car for 2,000 miles, it has almost 179k on the clock. I tried starting.....it.backfired.loudly and spluttered along at roughly 200rpm....and it had a nasty sounding knock...I shut it down after hearing the first few knocks, then I pushed it to the side of the toll plaza.

I'm waiting for the tow truck to come get me, in the meantime, can any of you folks give me an idea of where to start looking when the tow is done?

Stock engine or modified? First things to do are check the fuel pressure and scan for codes. What was the oil pressure gauge indicating when it was knocking? Has the fuel pump or distributor ever been replaced?

It's a stock motor, I have a code reader on order. The pressure gauge was reading lower under normal idle before this, around 20psi at idle. Some friends of mine theorized this was due to using 5W-30 instead of 10W-40...was about to change the oil when this happened. I did not notice the reading when it was idling rough and knocking. When I cycle the key, I no longer hear the fuel pump though. AFAIK stock fuel pump (no trapdoor in the trunk compartment metal.), possibly original distributor.

No Fuel pump sound with nearly 180,000 miles my first guess. Pick up a fuel pressure gauge from auto parts store and attach to the rail. If it is the Pump cut the trap and replace the pump first and for most. I had a similar issue but could hear the pump cycle but no pressure. Not only was the pump bad but I had a hole in the hose from the pump to the assembly.
