Chevy sent Z28s less hoods and rear spoilers to SLP they added the hood and SS spoiler air box, shocks, exhust, rims, etc etc. Chevy didnt make the SS at all. And 21 grand for a SS was a great deal for the seller for a 2001..... Now if you like the car it was a good deal for you

Im not arguing what years went to whom. But even if you ordered 17 inch chrome wheels on a 2000 - 02 they came from SLP and if they peeled good luck getting GM to pay for it. And my last word on this subject is in the 2002 GM Camaro catalog on page 32. It states "Installations or alterations to the original equipment vehicle(or chasis)as distrubuted by General Motors are not covered by General Motors New Vehicle Warranty." etc etc . That was GMs way of saying a SS isnt covered and a stock Z28 is. I know for a fact that GM shipped 2000 - 02 Z28s to SLP with mock hoods etc. Look at all the parts SLP sells as take-offs. GM took none of the changed parts back. I bought my rims and tires from SLP. They were 17 inch painted rims taken off someones NEW Z28 and 17 chrome wheels substituted on someones NEW SS. Alot of folks made tons of noise cause the paint on the hoods of some SSs never matched alot of the rest of the cars that SLP painted. This is my 5th Camaro my 2000 SS was 1 of SLPs crappiest jobs and I personally went thro dealer hell trying to get things done. Main reason I went back to a Z28 alot less warranty hassles. eek:Registered User

Others on this board might know better. I believe all LS1 SS Camaros were made by SLP from Z28s shipped by Chevy to them.

TRUTH..........i dont know what u guys are thinking, but the SS's always came from SLP. Henceforth the reason for an SS's "birth certificate" which u can get from SLP on ALL SS model camaros. For all you NON-believers
Call slp and ask for yourself. GM made the Z28, whether or not the governed what slp did to the SS is a different matter.........however SLP did "convert" z28's to SS's.

Heres what I know. All SLP modifications are listed on a sticker on the passenger door. If you want your build number just call SLP and have the VIN. They will give you that much. I also believe that SLP SS's have the airdam insert that has the SS emblem. You will also have things like car cover, floor mats, and a Camaro SS dash plaque.
As to being a good buy, 21k sounds kinda high. I got mine (2000 SS t-tops, leather, 60k miles) for 13000. Yours is newer, lower mileage, but I dont think its worth another 8 grand. But thats just IMO.

I don't know where your getting your info, but SLP mods on certain SS's did not void a GM Warranty. Thats why they had a partnership. Second, no NEW Z28's never came with 17 inch wheels. All Z28's came with 16inch wheels. 'The takeoffs your are referring to are SS parts from GM that SLP changed out for SLP parts. Such as the Bilstein HD suspension and Eibach spring, or exhuast, or optional ZR1 wheels. which are all 17 inch. SLP does not sell Z28 take off parts, don't know where you got that informaton. Not all SS's came with the same suspension or exhuast or even the front grill that you could get from SLP. Again , GM sent a certain amount of SS's to SLP for further mods, that ABSOLUTELY DID NOT VOID ANY GM WARANTY'S. As far as z28's being shipped to SLP, a Z28 in not a Z28 until the badging is on the car, the only diference between the an SS and Z28 are the hood, spoiler, exhaust, wheels, and badging. If SLP did mods, then suspension , exhaust, floormatts, front grill, plaque. I think both of you should call GM, and they will tell you forsure what they did. In 96-97, GM did send actuall Z28's that were produced by GM and SLP did everthing to them to make them SS's, GM did nothing to the SS's at all.Originally Posted by JaysGone

Not all the SS's have the same SLP build sheet.
