should i do coolant change myself or pay dealer 50.00?
they said they dont "flush" the system they just drain the radiator, heater core, and block then put the new dexcool in, im thinking i should do this myself, my car is a 00 trans am with 30,000 miles, should i do this myself or does it need flushed before i put new dex cool in it? i wouldnt think it needs flushed unless i switch over to regular antifreeze which im not doing :)

I work at a dealer and it is always better to flush the system. WE add a cleaner solution, and a sealant solution with the flush. I have had my radiator drained twice since i have had the car (9/02) The dexcool is good for 150k miles. So if you drain the radiator every year you shoudl be ok. I do not know how they drain the block and core though  That is why we try to sell the flushes because it gets to the core and block. If you can do it yourself than by all means just do itthat way. Just make sure you mix it 50/50. Or I suppose you can buy the pre-mixed one :D

this dealer said they dont flush it and all they put back i n is dexcool, not any cleaner, might as well drain it and add the new myself i suppose

Save your money & do it yourself.I did mine last fall.I used Prestone radiator flush & new Dex-Cool,just follow the directions. It's easy & it doesn't take very long

Your best bet is to contact a radiator shop with a powerflushing machine.
I did this and they flushed everything out of my radiator, etc. and put the new Dexcool in that I brought with me. You have to bleed the system just right otherwise you can damage your engine, trust me, I almost did this on my old '91 Grand Prix. It's better to let a pro. do this so in case they mess it up, you can be reimbursed and be assured it's done properly. |
theres a flushing machine for radiators now?
|
It's not a machine that's called a radiator powerflusher, but the shop I went to had this high-pressure water pump that got all of the brown crud out of my radiator that the Dexcool had left there.

how much does it cost to get this POWERFLUSH???

if you flush the coolant yourself, does anyone know if you are allowed to run it into the steet gutters? or how are you supposed to dispose? toilet???

I have this cool little tool, that you hook into your coolant lines, and it has a fitting for your garden hose, so you can flush the system by yourself. Worked well on my '82 Oldsmobile.

Id vote for either doing it youself, or going to another place that will flush it
Id say just about any car place will take the coolant and despose of it properly. If they dont, then im sure they know of someone who will. Also in alot of places theres a big fine if your caught pouring it into the streets or gutter or sewage system. |
whered u get it?

Canadian tire, its made by prestone though.
