Re: shifters

Just the stick or the whole shifter? I had the short stick on the stock SS Hurst. It was a nice improvement over the stock stick. Great deal for a $20 stick. It was just as quick and firm as my Pro 5.0. What I like about the 5.0 over that are the positive stops and how it slides over to 3rd instead of me having to make sure it goes into 3rd. Feels a little smoother. I didn't transfer my shortstick to the 5.0 because all you have to do is cut the stick a little and you have a short stick. Only reason I changed was that I found a used 5.0 for $60 then I sold the old set up for $40.

Re: shifters

My buddy has the B&M Ripper and he loves it. I've been in the car with him, and I was blown away how fast he tore through the gears (and I thought I knew how to shift a standard?!). My car is currently undergoing the A4 --> M6 swap, and I bought a B&M Ripper for mine as well ..... I'll let ya know (oooooh, maybe in a month or so?!! ) how it works out!

Re: shifters

This is not an LS1 engine tech question so it's getting moved.

And we have a Pro 5.0 on our 98 SS. Great shifter.

Re: shifters

I had the SS upgraded Hurst and hated it. The Pro 5.0 I replaced it with is a sweet piece. As soon as I looked at it I knew I would love it. The shifts are so smooth and crisp it is like driving a totally different car.

I have the Hurst billet plus, it has been making me look good at shifting. NEVER miss 3rd, I just opened handed SHOVE it, and it goes right to 3rd, ALWAYS.

I have the B&M ripper, and it was real tough at 1st to like, the springs are very stiff, and reverse requires 2 hands for me. 1st ear shifts are hard when the car is on, but shift from a slight roll, like to a stop and u're golden. Now, i am warming up to the shifter and i appreciate the positive feel to the shifts. Its hard to miss a shift under heavy throttle/shifting. I too was amazed at how it shifts so smoothly when you are flooring it. Bottom line is, precise, but stiff springs so you need some muscle to shift.

I have the SLP Short Shifter with Lou's Short Stick, and the SLP Leather ****

Couldn't be happier

Although I don't think you can find the shifter anymore

Re: shifters

I had an SLP shifter for a couple years. Bought the Pro 5.0 with extra $$, and was disappointed that the Pro 5.0 was not THAT much better feeling than the SLP piece.

I've also tried the Hurst and B&M shifters. If you're gonna plunk down almost $200 bones for one, I'd go with the B&M, that was my favorite.

Re: shifters

I too have the B&M. Compared to the sloppy factory hurst (that is garbage) which was also equipped with a short stick, the B&M unit is awesome and is made of superior materials. Almost too bad you can't show it off. The B&M made the shifts smooth and easy...or fast and clean depending on who you're driving next to! I have never shifted a better manual. It's worth the money !
