Security Light Question

This is very odd. When I put my resistor into the VATS plug the right way it let me start the car and the light went out! So I shut off the car. Taped up the resistor and the other open end of the plug. Now, I can still start the car but the security light stays on! WTF!?!?!

Re: Security Light Question

A couple of possibilities:

After you put the resistor in and can start the car, the security light will take a minute or two to go out. You might not have waited long enough.

or

Check your resistor again. If the VATS happens to see a fault with the key (resistance) after the engine has already started, it will do like what you are describing. Maybe you lost contact to the resistor after you got it started and taped it up with it not making good contact.

Re: Security Light Question

Thats a good point. However, I can shut the car off and start it right back up every time. I drove to the store and back and the light did not go out. Do I need to pull the neg battery terminal for an hour?

Re: Security Light Question

What I was saying in the second point, was if there is a fault in the system after the engine is already running, the security light will be on, but you will still be able to start and drive the car normally. That's a slightly different scenario than when it cannot detect the pellet in the key for the first time when you are trying to start the car (and it does not allow starting). So, double check your resistor connection or you may actually have something else wrong with the system.

Re: Security Light Question

So can you just pull that plug and stick the resistor in it? similar to the skipshift bypass? or do you need to cut the wire and splice in the resistor?

Re: Security Light Question

Take off the bottom of the dash and unplug the black plug. The resistor goes in the right side of it not the left side! Guess how I know. Hahaha. I need to make a "u" shape out uf the resistor. Stick one side of the "u" in one hole and the the otherside to complete the "circuit".
