Replaceing window motor (drilling out pop rivits)
 

So i need to replace the power window motor. I can either buy the motor and bracket for $100 and just swap it out for the old one. Or buy just the motor. IO then would have to drill out the pop rivits and put in the new motor and re-poprivit it. I have a pop-rivit gun. But my question is, how easy is it to drill out the old rivits.

its very easy just make sure you use a small enough bit to fit in the center and dont force it. I cant remember the size of the bit, but maybe someone else can tell you that. the install is straightforward just make sure you get the new motor lined up right with all of the guides using the correct holes

If you buy a new motor it will most likely come with new hardware consisting of nuts and bolts, just the right size to take the rivet's place. You can replace the motot without having to remove the regulator. It is much easier to do this way because you can leave the glass in the door and you won't have to re-align the door glass to the weatherstrips in the car. Just my 2cents

I would just use a hammer and chisel to remove the pop rivets and some small nuts and bolts with lockwashers to secure the new motor in place. That way it's easier to replace next time.;)

Use this procedure and you should not have any problems. The motor rivets are just soft aluminum, so they drill out with ease.

It's easy to drill out the rivets. When I did the window motor on my Firebird I just drilled out the 4 rivets using a 1/4 inch bit. Be careful if you just remove the motor because the regulator arms are spring loaded. If you remove the motor without securing the regulator your going to loose a finger or 2. It's not hard to do, just remember the door where the window regulator mounts to is basically fiberglass and if you get over zealous with a chisel you could damage the mounting holes and then you'll really have problems.
