Question on weight

So, I love racing, I've autocrossed a bunch with my friends back when I had a '95 Cobra (which was actually very nice) etc etc.

Will be graduating from college soon, and I kind of want a project car. I know all about power upgrades and suspension stuff, but need some pointers on cutting weight.

I don't want to make the car undrivable for the street of course, but I would like to shed some decent weight. What are the best ways to do so? In general, since I'm not sure what car I'll have. Stuff like noise insulation, A/C delete, radio/speakers, etc is obvious and easy...are there any other things? Removing rear seats? What kinda weight loss can I expect from this sort of thing.

I know it's really general, but there's some guys here who've put their cars on diets and I'd like to hear about the process and results...

i dont know how accurate that is. some one also said replacing the rear hatch with a fiberglass/composite one does a lot but i have never seen one.

The stock 4th Gen hatch is composite. There is a plastic window kit, including the hatch glass, that saves about 60#.
