Question about the Pro 5.0 now that I have it...

I put in my Pro 5.0 yesterday and have a couple questions:

1. I reused the lower shift boot, but didn't cut it to fit just under the upper "ring" on the shifter. Should I cut it and have the top of the shifter inside the car rather then under the boot?

2. The spring that forces the stick into the center position (between 3 and 4) isn't as strong as my stock shifter. Is there a way to tighten that spring? I saw that there were 2 screws on each side of the Pro 5.0, would tightening the one on the left side tighten the spring?

Otherwise, great shifter. Worth the money? ....eh, if it saves my transmission b/c of the stops, then yes. Comfort/perfomance wise, just put a shorter stick on your factory hurst.

hmm, the springs in mine are still strong after about 3 months, a guy i know got a pro 5.0 and the springs were real weak in his too, maybe u guys just got a bad batch of springs, maybe try to exchange it for a new one.

Yeah i donno why it's not as tight. If i pull the stick in between the 1 and 2 gears, and let it go, it won't spring back fully into the center 3/4 position. This is really annoying because I think one of the biggest things that helps the 2/3 shift and even the helps prevent downshifting accidentally from 3 to 2. Maybe I'll call Pro 5.0, if they're nice people they'll replace it

yea, those are the bolts you adjust so you don't bend the shift forks. You put it in gear and then back them out a turn if i remember correctly. It really sounds like you got a bum shifter so i would call them up. I have it and i love it, i haven't mist a shift on it in the 20+ passes i've used it at the track.

not the bolts i'm talking about. you're talking about the stop bolts, i'm talking about the screws on the left and right sides of the shifter.

Those bolts hold the whole thing together; they're not adjustable. Your problem is more than likely being caused by the lower shift boot not being in the right position. Cut the boot to fit around the round part of the shifter and see if that doesn't fix the issue. Since the Pro5.0 doesn't have a dust boot, it will get a lot of road grime in it the way you have it now.

Cutting the lower boot to fit over the shifter base works great with the Hurst Billet Plus shifter as well.

Doesnt the T56 have internal shift stops?

The T56 does not have stops internal to the tranny. To make matters worse, the forks are aluminum. Long story short, I had stock shifter, and really hammered 4th one day (racing...duh) and then could not get it out of 4th. After sitting at a red light dicking with the shifter while ppl honked at me, I got mad and forced it out of 4th (2 hands and a lound grunt).

I took off down the road and eased into 4th again...got stuck...forced out.

Went for a while not using 4th...planned on rebuild. Eventually found a good deal on a Ripper, and installed it. Set the stops and continued to not use 4th.

Got brave one day, eased into 4th...no problems. As days went on I got harder and harder as i went into 4th gear, and have not had any problems yet. I am sure that something is still wrong, but it works. My thinking is that I originally bent the fork, and it stuck in 4th. Then, for the next several months I did not use 4th, but still hammered the other gears (3rd), and maybe bent the fork back to normal enough to not get stuck.

Anyhow, I am not having any trouble with my tranny as of yet...knock on wood!! ;)

I took my Pro 5.0 apart and installed 2 washers where the springs are. If you take the 4 allen heads off, you'll see 2 springs. Take them off, and install 2 washers under them. This will shim the spring and make it stronger. My shifter works like a charm. I also cut the shifter about 1 1/2 - 2 inches, so it sits much shorter. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I installed mine without cutting the boot and it works fine

I called Pro5.0 finally, they will not send a replacement spring. They will work on the shfter if I send it in however. This is not an option for me.

So I guess it will come to creating a spacer to put more pressure on the spring

That makes sense i guess, it kinda sucks for you though. I mean u can't call up the dealership and tell them u need a new motor under warenty and they'll just send it over.
