power antenna issues

I did some searches on this and would like some more info. My 95' TA antenna is now stuck and the motor is grinding away. Is there a fix that can be done to the motor like for the headlight motors or will I need to replace the entire unit? Any help is appreciated.

Re: power antenna issues

when mine went out it was the piece of plastic tubing that pushes/pulles the antenna, looked like an easy fix, but the whole unit had to be replaced.

Re: power antenna issues

My line broke off right at the antenna on the inside,so I pulled it apart and was able to repair it easily. The antenna is about an inch shorter now. If you ingenious enough you might try some heavy weed-wacker line and replace it, but if you look closely at the stcok line it has a wire running through it. So maybe weed wacker line won't work. Someone might try it if they have one lying around. I also put a cut-off switch inline so if it breaks again I just have to flip the switch and the motor stops, plus if I'm just listening to a tape or CD I don't need the antenna up. This will also help to keep the line from breaking by stoping the antenna just before it hits bottom. When installing the switch you need to splice it into the center wire of the three wires this will stop it both ways up & down.

Re: power antenna issues

Thanks for the feedback guys. I took a look at it last night and decided to just unplug it for now since it's stuck in the up position. No more grinding. Should be fine for now until I have time to take it apart or replace it. Looks pretty easy to replace too.
