Popping Sound from rear at low speed, should I be alarmed?

I don't really know how long it's been going on, I can just say I just started noticing it now.

At speeds below 30 and it doesn't always happen, just usually, I hear a popping sound from the rear. It sounds like the driveshaft turning to be perfectly honest as it's quite consistant with my speed. It just goes pop pop pop pop pop...

It does NOT pop while I'm ACCELLERATING OR BRAKING!!! Even from those low speeds...

I have...
- New shocks
- New Poly Tranny Mount (which is what I think is the cause but not sure...)
- Brand new 245/50/16's
- The rear end fluid is relatively new and I don't think it's leaking... or atleast not when I'm stopped... and it didn't pop at all when replaced... How do I check the fluid?
- Relatively new brake pads but it didn't pop at all then...
- Stock 2 Piece Driveshaft with 155K on her...

Do you think it could just be the shocks returning to an offset position since I'm running on such low profile tires? Thats when I started noticing it the most...coming from 225/60's...

I have the same problem with mine but i noticed it after i installed lower control arms. I have asked around and people told me that they weren’t tight enough but i torque them to 74 foot pounds like in the instructions. I am starting to think that it is my rear end though. Let me know if you track it down.

Think I can make an 2,400 mile trip like this?? I'm due to leave this weekend... Like I said there's no popping at all when accellerating or even cruising at high speeds just below 30... and on the Interstate I'm doing well over 30.... :D

Edit: Could this also be the U-Joint? How easy or hard is it to replace that? Can I do it alone with standard tools or do I need a shop? Do they pop in or are they machined in or what?...

Did you ad the limited slip additive with your rear end grease. If not, that could be causing the popping. Mine is popping right now because I forgot the last time I changed the grease. I plan to rechange mine this weekend.

I added some type of LSD fluid but it wasn't from GM, just on the counter kind of thing... could it just have worn out?

hmmmm, I have always used the GM kind. When it pops, does your car actually kinda bounce, like something is binding up and realeasing. If so, that sounds like your LS additive didnt get put in, or it isnt cutting it.

No vibrations at all, just that noise...

If you actually have a limited slip rear end, you should use the GM stuff. Most other additives don't work the same and you end up with noise.

Well I was unfortunate to find out that it wasn't the additive...

My driveshaft collapsed... 2 - Piece Drive Shaft now in two pieces...

I needed the car to go on a 1,600 mile trip to... wow what a way to get screwed...

Count your blessings. It could have happened while on the trip.

Indeed, and replaced it too and still have time to rest before leaving...
