Opinion: 93 Z28 Vs. Nissan 350Z

Hi, I own a 93 Z28 Automatic with a Cold-Air and Stage-1 Chip. I'm thinking about racing this guy who's got a 350Z 6-speed that's stock.I know it's not a 2005 with the slightly higher horsepower motor, so if it's an 03 or an 04, they're basically the same thing. I've seen some performance figures, and they're very close. I was just wondering if you guys could tell me your opinion on who'd win. Thanks.

I think the 350z would win no doubt.

93Z all the way......but it'll be a close race. Then again, I'm biased.

My mother has a 350z and it seems actually pretty slow, I have a '98 z28 6 speed and I know I would blow it out of the water, I think your car can still beat it.

He'll be at your door by the end of 2nd, probably pass you in 3rd. Off the line, your torque will put you ahead. It'll be close.

It will be a drivers race for sure. If you had an M6 it would even things up a bit. It will be very close, but this is assuming he is stock and your car is in perfect tune.

It wouldn't hurt to shed some pounds either, right? Rear seats, spare tire and jack, CDs, floormats, loose change, and keep a quarter tank of gas.

From Car and Driver:
Nissan 350Z 35th Anniversary Edition
Vehicle type: front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 2-passenger, 3-door coupe
Price as tested: $37,160 (base price: $36,660)
Engine type: DOHC 24-valve V-6, aluminum block and heads, port fuel injection
Displacement: 213 cu in, 3498cc
Power (SAE net): 300 bhp @ 6400 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 260 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm

Transmission: 6-speed manual
Zero to 60 mph: 5.8 sec
Standing 1/4-mile: 14.3 sec @ 101 mph

So it looks like its going to come down to your driving abilities. The 350Z isn't really that fast.

Its also not unusual for these cars to post high 13s stock in manual form.

Re: Opinion: 93 Z28 Vs. Nissan 350Z

my friend went 14.0 @ 99mph BONE stock, stock tires and all in a 03 350z...(not lowest moddle, but one above it) my other friend went 13.9 @ 100 with a intake manifold...(waste of $700 imo)

should be close

I would never do this.. ever..

sure some weight loss does help.. but you need to lose 100 lbs to get 1/10th of a sec.. That doesnt sound like its worth it..
now for the gas..
lets see..

take 4 gallons of gas (roughly 25lbs..) and move it quickly forward.. What happens? Slosh.. so you have 25lbs forced to the back and then it shoots forward and then back again.. thats negative energy..
I fill up with a full tank just before entering the track.. with that I now have maximum weight over the rear axle so the tires can plant better and no slosh as the tank is now full..

with the above technique/methods.. I get 13.1@108 out of a bone stock 2002 Z28

Well if you bothered to read the guys post or sig., you would see he has an automatic LT-1, not a manual LS-1 like yourself. There is a big difference there. Also, his car is very closely matched to the 350Z, so shedding a hundred pounds could be the edge to winning. To each their own though.

Re: Opinion: 93 Z28 Vs. Nissan 350Z

I think the 350z would win. I just raced one this morning and, although I won handley with my mods (see sig), I think this guy would beat a mostly stock 93. I can't imagine beating this car with my 95 when it was stock. I think you would need at least headers to give it a run. Keep in mind that the 350z is just as heavy as our Camaros (3600-3700) despite their deceivingly compact look. And as mentioned earlier, aren't they about 300 hp? Not sure about that but headers would get you close at least.

Out of curiousity, do you know how much a fully loaded 97 z weighs in at? I went to the emissions today and they list my vehicle weight as 3733lbs. Thats impossible, I already have over 150lbs. worth of crap taken out of the thing.
