No answer *at all* from Comp Cams?? :confused:
Hey all, just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to 'em or not...
A little over two weeks ago now, I sent a made a call to Comp Cams, & asked for a valid email address so that I could send them a request for help with picking out a cam. The woman on the other end told me 'compcams@compcams.com', so that's what I used.
A day or two later, I sent them my email message, outlining the following:
* My vehicle (inc. year, weight, engine size, CR, RPM range, etc.)
* The intake I'm using;
* The heads I've bought for this engine;
* The exhaust specs for the car;
* A full list of mods that I've performed (or will be doing simultaneous with the cam install);
* A note that the car retains the stock ECU, & does need to pass emissions.
I also mentioned that I'm hoping to swap out the existing A4 for an M6 pretty soon, & will be swapping rear gears at the same time (and yes, I gave them all of the info for those as well).
Additionally, I gave them specific info on how the car will be used (the "intended application") & told them of two specific motorsports events that I'm hoping to take part in.
Finally, I stated that if there's any flexibility left after all that, I'd want to give preference to maximizing torque under the curve.
A bit later, I followed up with another message, just asking them if they could confirm that they'd gotten my message. It's now been very nearly two weeks, & I haven't heard anything from them.
I thought that they wanted you to be thorough with the info you give them, so that they could give you the best recommendation, otherwise I'd have been a little bit more general...
I realize that sometimes it takes time, & I'm not the only customer they're dealing with, but I'm getting a bit disgusted with 'em by now...

Re: No answer *at all* from Comp Cams?? :confused:
I should add a bit of clarification to that last comment - I'd already tried using their "Cam Help" phone number to call in to speak with someone about my cam choice, & got some idiot that sounded like he was about 17 (not saying that all 17-year-olds are idiots, but he sure was).
"Wonder Boy" barely asked me any questions at all about the car (IIRC, he didn't even ask about the transmission, or whether I had to pass emissions, etc.), he just threw out a cam & said "Yeah, you'll like that one!"
When it happened, I'd thought that "Wonder Boy" was an anomaly, but now I'm starting to wonder...
I'd intended to buy their engine modeling software pretty soon, as well as the cam (& probably the entire valvetrain), but as it stands now, it wouldn't take a very strong gust of wind to push me over to any of their competitors...
Just wondering if it's happened to anyone else...

Re: No answer *at all* from Comp Cams?? :confused:
Comp makes nice off the shelf cams, rockers, pushrods, and springs for our cars but when it comes to cam recommendation I dont think they have 1/10 the expertise of Bret Bauer. People post what cam recommends all the time and they are rediculous cams either over agressive or too tame.
I'd say take it as a sign, PM SStrokerAce [Bret Bauer] for his email and let him know exactly what your doing and he'll hook you up with a great cam for your car.

Dustin I had the same problem, a few weeks ago I filled out that long form for a cam question about which retainer and lock combo they prefer with the beehive springs since there are a few options and just to see if they agreed the CC503 was the best option for me. I NEVER heard back from them. I hate bad customer service.
