new z28 owner... cars got some problems though

Hey everyone. I just purchased my first z28. It is a 94 lt1.
Now the problem with the car is that it wont start. The old owner said that he believes it jumped in time. Is there any way to diagnose this without taking the whole timing chain cover off and doing all that? Also I assume the process for this is about the same as an old school carbed 350? Would I have the room to get the harmonic balancer puller in there without needing to take out the radiator or anything? It looks like these engines were crammed in there pretty tight. Also if it slipped, whats the chances of damaged valves since this is a non interference engine?

First thing to do is scan it for codes. There are several codes that will prevent it from starting, including the cam position sensor in the Optispark distributor, and the ignition control module.

Do you have spark? Have you checked the fuel pressure?

I don't think I've ever actually seen one that "slipped timing".

I have not checked anything. I am actually still having trouble transporting it home. I have been afraid to crank it because if its a timing issue, I don't want to take a chance in doing any more damage than what may already be going on. Especially since from what I understand the oil pump is cam driven? I guess as soon as I get it home I will check the codes and go from there.
