New 1/4 times.....I'm pissed

alright here is my two best slip times...

R/T .819
60' 2.273
330 6.254
1/8 9.448
MPH 77.86
1000 12.152
1/4 14.426
MPH 98.85

R/T .860
60' 2.237
330 6.219
1/8 9.407
MPH 77.92
1000 12.112
1/4 14.386
MPH 98.94

my best to date was 13.9......I added Nitto DR and burned them good to get them sticky, also added fan switch to keep it cooler, and crane coil (wich does nothing--just wanted to replace the stocker). I had very little gas......which i think hurt me....too light in the rear maybe? And when you do a burn out on the street both markes should be really black correct? One is one isn't......differential is going or out...lol. It's an auto with stock converter and 2.73's. It was around 50 degrees......and very close to sea level. So what gives? my friend is running 14.4 same gears stock converter car stock?

I have pulled 2.046 60's on bald "sonar" cheapes........What gives?

It is embaresing, i have spend a couple grand and a stocker is running the same times...........2.4L 6psi Sunfire runs those times:mad: I'm about ready to pack her up till i get money for Stall and gears:(

Looks like your posi is going out, which will make for craptastic 60ft times

"White Knight" 04-07-2004 10:08 PM

That is what i though...........one mark is really black and the other is really light:(

How much is it for a new posi........is that the same as the differential???

CeeBee94Z 04-08-2004 02:09 AM

Have you changed the gear oil before? If so did you put the limited slip additive back in? If not that is probably your problem with the "posi"

97WS6SCharged 04-08-2004 02:10 AM

What's the altitude that you're running in?

texasTA 04-08-2004 02:17 AM

Well for starters, your 60 foot time could use some help. But like stated before, if the posi is going out say bye-bye to good short times. I would look into thta first.

superadobo808 04-08-2004 03:17 AM

well, if your'e running drag radials, your also going to have to get a stall. with stock tires, the tires will spin off the line, allowing you to get into your powerband faster. with dr's your hooking, but it take longer for you to get into your powerband. gears will also help alot. so, without a converter and gear your times will probably be slower. also, mabye the weather was differant, or the track wasn't prepped well, those things play a big factor in times.

Jon97Z 04-08-2004 06:55 AM

I think saying your posi is going may be a little premature. How much PSI were you running in the Nitto's? If you ran too much, that could affect 60' times too. What other mods do you have? If you're close to stock...considering your 60' times on those passes, it's really not that off. Weather conditions can be big factor too.

TedH 04-08-2004 07:44 AM

The bottom line is your sixty foot times suck and until you hook up you don't have a baseline from which to compare.

Have a spotter check to see if ne side is spinning more than the other. Even a weak posi shouldn't hurt your sixty foot times if it hooks up. I used to hook up on drag radials with a stick and 3.42's so yu sahould have no problem with 2.73's and an auto unless the track is unsuited to race on.

Put the rears at 20 pounds, put 40 pounds in the front tires, unhitch the front sway bar, try it again... I bet you have better luck.

The MPH is horrible. You either need to tune up the car, or mod it some more. Check every vaccuum line, change plugs and wires, check the opti etc. Your MPH should be much higher.

Where are you located? Just curious becaus there was a grey turbo sunfire at the track sunday running 6 psi and mid 14's. This was in Stanton Michigan.

Jon97Z 04-08-2004 10:52 AM

In my opinion, now that I see your mods...I must've missed that before - something is definitely not right. You probably shouldn't add more mods until you figure out what's causing your sluggish times. Your car should be mid 13's easy with a good 60' time. I have similiar mods and ran a 13.40 with the problems I still have. That's another story.

Your mph is low as well. That's almost what most LT1's do stock. Are you throwing any codes? It would help us give advice if you had some scan readings also. But as mentioned, check plugs, wires ( for burning ), coil maybe, and even your opti. It could even be a bad O2 sensor.

Cahill93Z 04-08-2004 11:06 AM

somethings wrong with your car you should be trapping 100+ easy i traped 99 stock and now do 101 with jus intake and cut out, check all plugs, wires, and then get your opti checked to see if the spark is arching

"White Knight" 04-08-2004 05:37 PM

Yea dude Stanton.............i know that sunfire guy.....he was trying to get the jump on me he said he wasn't going sunday.....but a spy showed me where he had posted the slips so i knew what he was running..I convinced him to come wensday.......he was running with me. Where you from? you go there much? hit me up sometime when your going........me and some buddies go there a lot.......like 30 min from me.

But anyway to the questions......my altitude is almost sea level--definately less than 75 feet.

And about the trapping high thing this car has never traped high.........100mph once. The wires and plugs have been changed twice didn't do anything either time, just did the coil too. You have to remember it has the 2.73's so it isn't going to trap too high.......but still the 60's are crap.....like i said earlier i was running bald tires......with half the tire cords showing to 2.043 60's before i put it away for the winter
