Need to clean engine bay?
 

Getting a new opti anyways here (well rotor/cap MSD) so whats the best way I could get this engine bay with oil, coolant and just all these years of crap clean??? :)

Hi there,
In the U.K we have a product called "GUNK" which is basically a really powerful engine de-greaser.I'ts available in aerosol form which you can spray on or in a regular tin which you can just brush on.Either way you have to hose it off with water so you will need to cover the electrical parts under the hood with something to ensure they stay dry.Whatever you do don't have your engine bay steam cleaned as this can lead to all sorts of damage,you're better off doing it yourself.

I'd recommend buying a big gallon thing of concentrated simple green and putting it in a spray bottle at about 50/50 mixture with water. Spray liberally and wipe down.

I would not recommend steam cleaning or water hoses anywhere near your engine bay. A damp rag and simple green work great.

When I first purchased my car in 2003 I did pressure wash the engine bay. I used Gunk foaming engine brite and was very carefull to stay away from the opti. In fact, I avoided the entire front of the engine.

Ever sinse then, it has been easy to keep on top of it with Simple Green and rags. My car always looks clean enough to eat off underhood.

So you just spray it on, let it foam and then wash it off?

pressure wash it off, yes.

I cannot put enough emphasis on how important it is to not get the front of the engine wet. The opti is very unpredictable when it gets wet.

What Gun 5 are both changing optisparks. So thats the reason we wanted to clean our engine now. So that we can ruin a already bad opti before we put the new one in.

haha woohoo :p hopefully it will still start to get onto the trailer to goto the shop :p is there anything else I should be careful about or not really? the car has lots of unhooked vacum lines on the intake and such? just tape over them I imagine?

Yeah, you'll be fine. Make sure all the connectors are plugged in. They are not designed to be weatherfroof while unplugged. They only seal when connected.

nope theres some unplugged ones (shop is fixing that to) ill just wrap them up good ;)

castrol super clean is the best and dont spary it on alum while its hot your alum well be ruined

Simple Greens not expensive and it works wonders!
