LT1 or something else???

I just bought a 97 Z28 and I'm going to pull the motor because its knocking pretty bad.
This car will mainly be an 1/8 mile track car but I want it street legal.
My questions are, should I go back with an LT1 or convert to an LS setup?
What other 350 motors can i use so that my heads and intake are reusable? ie. Does it need to be an LT1 block to mate with my accessories and engine bay? I have found a few short blocks online but I'm not sure everything will bolt on.
My last project was old school so some of this new school is throwing me off.
Thanks for the help

Re: LT1 or something else???

If you're asking if you can use both lt and ls parts on the same motor, then no. You can however use lt4 heads and intake on a lt1, but you're better off porting the stock lt1 heads. If you want an ls swap, you'll also need a kmember from a 98-02 fbody and a couple other odds and ins. What are your hp goals, track time goals, budget, etc? We'll be able to help you more once we know those things
