Point taken. However, my original intent was to show that they are not as fast as some people seem to believe they are as well. Some guys would have you believe that the DZ302 is the end all, be all, even today. I would be could if GM did a special editon 5th gen with a high revving engine in it today, in spirit of the 302. However, the thread title was LS3 vs 302. There is no comparison. The LS1 severly outclasses it, so the LS3 is a no brainer.

Yeah, that is the problem. Nothing like starting my carbeurated car on a cold winter morning. Maybe I can look up some advice on how to fire it how on my old Tandy. Nothing like the old school stuff.

I think the point is, that it isn't a 12 second car with just "slicks and headers".

Ive seen a few references to the 75/80 dragway and timeslips from it. Guys isnt 75/80 an 1/8th mile track? I could be wrong. Also are the 1/4 mile times for the 60's Z28 the single 4bbl or cross ram dual 4 bbl which was also stock? In addition as mentioned drag racing is a SMALL part of what makes a Z so great. If you want to plop in a big block and make a front heavy SS 1/4 mile brawler be my guest, but Id much perfer a 50/50 weight balanced street racer.

Right and wrong. The track no longer exists. It was shut down nearly 2 years ago. And although it was at a time a 1/4 mile track, most deemed it unsafe for various reasons, so it was mostly used for 1/8 mile racing.

Finally, I believe most of the better times achieved were with not only the cross ram intake but with tubular headers as well. While they surely improved performance, manifold changes won't net a second and a half ET improvement.

Thanks for clearing that up.

The times mentioned in this thread are cross ram?

Thread summary to follow:

1) Early Z/28's were badass cars.

2) Their 302's were severely and purposely underrated.

3) Even today, some people still believe that rating describes it's output.

4) 302 Z/28's have gotten into the 12's - bone stock, but more commonly were 14 second cars.

5) Short of the current LS7, the LS3 will be the meanest motor ever released by Chevy. Better than previous Z/28 powerplants, better than anything including the ZL1.
well since you can BUY IT OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR that makes it stock? well then, there have been a million different aftermarket companies sell their products on the "showroom floor" but that doesnt make it stock, or even near to it. Today you can buy a calloway vette in many showroom floors,
http://www.callawaycars.com/callaway...zedDealers.htm
not to mention countless other companies that have sold/will sell factory modified RACECARS in SHOWROOM FLOORS.

that doesnt mean that it is stock by any means. Sorry. Go to the LS3 corvette forums and listen to their definition of stock, runflat tires, some let a muffler pass but that is it. No deviation from the mass produced car. This is the most pointless thread I've ever read and cant believe I am posting AGAIN.
