I agree with the other suggestions on here regarding the problem. If the bars on the top and the holes are too worn out, or dont extend far enough, just fix the problem instead of "taping" the problem. Get the parts from a junkyard or try to adjust the bar in the tops if possible. My bars on my top extend I'd say over 1/2-3/4" into the hole on each side.

If the holes are worn, maybe you need to replace the plastic A-pillar piece that it goes into. Actually, I'm not sure it that's the piece it is, but it makes sense to me

There are actually metal braces where the holes are on either side of the top. I cant see how these can get worn, I mean taking on and off t-tops should not rub the bar and holes together that bad.

My lock is broken so I dont bother locking the other.

I'm a NUT about making sure the latches are down, Almost every time I get in the car I do a visual or I push up on them to make sure they are latched. I'm constintly telling people not to touch the levers.

Hopefuly with how I re-sealed the rubber they wont leak anymore either.

looks like you need to re-sleeve em
it actually may be possible, you must have a ton of clearance. it wouldnt be load bearing so a plastic sleeve would do. or you could get exact specs and get a shop to make a metal one, bevel the edge and hammer it in....

The brackets that hold the t-top have a plastic insert in them. The plastic could wear out but it can be replaced. You can get a set from the Junk yard or just by new ones from GM. They are very easy to change. You might want to check the rod on the t-top itself. If it is bent for any reason, It may cause to rod to become shorter in length and there for causing the rod to not extend fully ino the the holding bracket when put into the latched postion. I seen a t-top on a car before where the owner forced the t-top to lock but it wasnt in the alignment hole. I took the t-top apart and seen he bent the one rod. THey are not that strong and can bend. They are only made out of Mild steal.

Ok me, like a whole bunch of F-body owners are tired of our T-tops flying off. One of mine flew off the last time I went to the drag strip (luckily it didn't break) so I am asking if anyone knows any odd ways to keep them on.

I was thinking about duck tape. Any other stregnther anyone knows?

Thanks!
duct tape for t-tops ...

yet another fine post you'd never see on the bmw forums
