how do you take apart the alternator?

how do you take apart the alternator?
well i want to take the two casings apart off of the alternator so i can paint them. are there any instructions i need to follow, things i need to know and what tools do i need?

when you pull it apart the springs that hold the mags in will pop out use a paper clip to hold them in. other than that i can't think of any other needed tricks but it's been a few months since i had 1 apart.
