How difficult is it to add power locks to a car without them?
How difficult is it to add power locks to a car without them?
My Camaro doesn't currently have power locks, how hard would it be to add this feature in? I found the original switches on eBay along with original lock solenoids. Can anyone tell me if this is even worth trying to do?

Re: How difficult is it to add power locks to a car without them?
I'll have to figure out how to wire it up so that both switches unlock/lock both locks at the same time. There was someone on eBay who was selling a power window and lock setup (OEM pull) along with the factory wire harness, but it got to expensive for me.
Re: How difficult is it to add power locks to a car without them?
It'll take some work. First you'll need the harness for the doors. Then you'll need to undrill and then repostion and drill a power motor/regulator. Diffrent door panels, switches and plate. I think that's it.
Re: How difficult is it to add power locks to a car without them?
We installed power locks into my friends 86 Z28.
We got all the parts from a 91 Firebird.
There is a relay for the locks as well as the 2 lock solenoids, a wiring harness that has 4 wires I believe, that run along the firewall behind the dash.
We cut the harness on the driver and pass side and just added our own wires to run behind the dash since the stock wires in the 91 were all wrapped in with the IP harness.
Door panels are the same, no difference there, and on the door lock panel, we just pulled out the blank plates and put the switches in.
Took us a few hours to remove the system and then a few hours to install it in the 86.

I think I may just buy the driver side switch, and not put the switch on the passenger side, and do the wires myself since I can't find the factory harness. I found the actuators and the switches on eBay.

The panels I have in my 88 came out of an 82 and in the crank hole are little bird emblems.
