How can you check and tell if a cars odometer has been tampered with?

I am looking at a car currently and would LOVE to check. The reason being is I have seen several Ls1's around here with the darn thing unplugged. Ticks me off when people do that. Makes me scared to buy a used one!

Re: How can you check and tell if a cars odometer has been tampered with?

The list on people who would be able to tamper with the digital odometer on a late model vehicle is extremely short. I tried to get my milliage adjusted when I did my late model dash swap, the people I found that could do it (mainly GM), wouldn't without masive amounts of paperwork.

Unpluging the speed sensor will only work on a M6 car because the car won't shift until it hits redline without it. In most cases it is easy to see as the condition of the interior usually matches the milliage on the vehicle.
