How to adjust height of windshield wiper?

My driver side wiper is rubbing against the cowl and the windshield. Had to replace the windshield, because the wiper is putting pressure against the glass itself and ended up cracking it. The passenger side is perfect, but the spring on the driver side wiper is the culprit for the damage. I've tried backing the nut off to raise the wiper arm, but the wiper wont operate correctly after that because its not tightly secure on the splined shaft. Any ideas? Do i need a new wiper linkage?

The window would not break because of the wiper unless it was was lifted and dropped hard on the window. My stud for the wiper on mine is getting stripped. I loosened the bolt and removed it and added locktite and tighten it in the right area and have had no problems. You might need a new wiper assembly and they run around $60.

They are normal threads if i remember right. I don't think any car if reverse threaded. Most of the wipers are thread locked on from the factory so they can be a real bitch to get off. I was replacing the windshield and broke the window again trying to break the wipers off the studs. Release agent with 10 minutes will really help.
