heater-A/C problems

Ive been searching the board and found some useful stuff, but come to a dead end. so lets start off with the ugly part
its 93 Z28 thats had a rough life- previous owners gave it a 95 eng/trans/PCM and various interior parts so its got some unique problems, but im getting tired of not having heat or a/c.
everything seems to be installed and the a/c is full, but...the heat only seems to work from the default vents (floor-defrost) and doesnt work work a crap the a/c just blows hot air.
The first thing that comes to mind is vacuum leak. Ive checked it the best I can from the old fashioned oral method lol and it seems to hold vacuum fine. Later this afternoon Im off to buy another MityVac for more accurate results since my old one didnt seems to like being used for hyd clutches all the time.

Other than testing the vacuum in the dash, what can I realisticly accomplish in the driveway without a $300 AutoXray or other scanner I cant afford at the moment. And what, other than Vacuum problems, would affect BOTH systems.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated-but dont just say "check the ABLQMJ" be a little detailed, short answers are good, but explanations are better.
thanks,

UPDATE-still not finding any vacuum problems, and even jumping the red and gray on the pressure sensor the compressors not engaging.-starting to wonder how many problems i actually have

And then more questions.....
whats it mean if I jump the low pressure switch red and gray and nothing happens, but if I jump the relay, B1-B4 the compressor engages???

lol somebodies got to have a clue on this

thanks,
