I already did a search and couldn't find anything that looks like the issue that I'm having. Yesterday on the way home from work I had my parking lights on about 3/4 of the way home the pass side light went up. So I turned the parking lights off for a min then turned them back on a couple of minuets later the light popped up again. Then it wouldn't go back down. I got home and felt the motor and it was very warm but now it doesn't make any noise when the other motor is unplugged. I used the volt meter and checked both weatherpacks and the drivers side one has juice but the pass doesn't. Then I used some wire to try the drivers side connector on the passenger side motor and it doesn't work. Does anybody know what's going on. They have been working perfectly before with no noise what so ever.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Well I found my problem there was a part of the module that burned up i had a picture i was going to post but for some reason it's not working on my server. It is a common radio shack part that i can soder in but the question is why would it burn up? Should i fix this module or buy a new one?

Thanks

You are talking like you have a Firebird but your handle makes it look like you have an SS? Don't forget to list what kind and year of vehicle you are talking about.

Anyway, if you are talking about a Firebird, those headlight control modules rarely go out. If you can buy the part from Radio Shack for a couple bucks and want to try changing it, I'd go for it. These modules are expensive and if you can fix it for a couple bucks then I probably would.

Check the connector for corrosion. That is the most common problem for when the lights just don't seem to want to work at all.

You have an odd problem though in that it goes up sometimes but never down? Hmm... well, checking the connector is cheap/easy so do that first

Mine wouldn't go up or down. It's sitting in the electrical department getting looked over by one of my guys when he goes on his lunch break. It was a switching transistor that went out. I have a 94 trans am and a 67 camaro rs ss that's where the handle came from sorry about that I just figured that since camaros didn't have headlight motors I wouldn't need to state what kind of car it is. I want to fix it the cheap way but I also don't want to risk the chance of burning my car to the ground. The guys said that for some reason current was being constantly pulled throught the switching transistor and it just burnt up. I'll know more after lunch.

Thanks,

Scott

Hah I was looking over the module and there is a sticker that says replace DO NOT REPAIR. Do you think I should listen to it?

I'd double efforts on repairing it after reading this sticker.

Well i put the module all back together and guess what it works!!! But the passenger side motor is drawing to much current so I did the free mod then I also tightened the actual metal motor part to the plastic housing since it was a little loose. I also sprayed some lube on the headlight motor shaft and put her all back together the pass side motor is still about half the speed of the drivers side and is still sucking a lot of current. I know that becuase I had the module apart and the transistor gets pretty warm if you turn the headlights on and off a couple of times. But current does cut off now and the transistor cools down. So at first I thought it was the module then I took the module cover off and fliped the motor wires so the pass. operated the drivers and vice versa. Well then the "drivers" side transistor got really hot while operating the pass. side motor. So now I know for sure it's a motor problem I also bypassed the wiring on to the pass side and wired it straight up and the motor still was slow and was heating up the transistor. Can I take apart the motor and fix it? Otherwise does anybody have any ideas or should I just break down and buy a new motor.

Thanks
