engine coolant tempatures?

i got my 95 z28 2 weeks ago and my radiator needs to be flushed out, i havent driven it with the radiator working like it should, and im curious what the temperatures should be like after an hour long drive shifting at 3k around town. right now im driving with the heater on when it goes past 170 which is also when the low coolant light comes on, and im shifting at around 2k rpm

so can anyone give me a general idea what the temperatures should be after driving it light/normal/hard for around an hour

Re: engine coolant tempatures?

Low speed coolant fan on temp is 226 and goes to high at 235. Fans are off below 221 so it's not abnormal to run that high. If your low coolant light is on check the fluid in the radiator (cold) to make sure it's not low. If you keep loosing colant check your pump for leaks and have your system tested.

Re: engine coolant tempatures?

the coolant level is above normal, i think the hose from the radiator to the recovery tank is clogged somewhat theres orange crap inside it.

i just checked the gauge and i was going by 10's not 25's lol
so i drive around town and it gets up 210-230 pretty fast if i drive normally and the engine coolant light comes on at 210

Re: engine coolant tempatures?

I'm talking about the level in the radiator not the recovery tank. The level sensor is on the radiator and is not related to temp usually. The orange stuff is your coolant. It seems to be Dexcool and not green so don't mix them. Make sure before you add any thing to the system.

well it came with the green stuff, and when the coolant light came on i checked inside the radiator and i saw orange stuff inside the hose, i thought it was rust or just sediment but someone told me it might be the factory coolant.

but the level in the radiator is just below where the hose to the recovery tank is

They don't mix too well. I'd get a good flush then decide which coolant you're going to use and stick with it.

for a stock car...210 isn't a big deal...particlularly around town.

i would flush the radiator, put in a 160 degree state, fill it with fluid of your choice and bleed the system.

then see what happens
