deflector issue?
while i am on the highway with the AC on the engine overheats and reaches 3/4 the gauge, and when i stop it cools down.. i do expect the deflector to be the issue.. the deflector can easily be moved by hand to the back by hand.. so i am expecting that while i am on the highway air pushes is back which causes not enough air to be pushed up to the radiator.. how much movement should be ok with the deflector? or should it not move to the back at all??

Re: deflector issue?
It should be ridgid, should not be easily bent. RK Sprots makes a nice one that is slightly larger and provides better cooling.

Re: deflector issue?
You could temporaily fix by putting something rigid until you can get the new part. Just put a few screws thru the front and secure to anything thin and stiff.

Re: deflector issue?
It should be staying relatively rigid. You need to find out why it isn't. If it is just weak for some reason, get a new one from GM. 10229657 is the part number. It is less than $38, even at list price.

I checked RK Sports and it seems that I need to buy an extra kit with it that will cost a total of about $1000

Re: deflector issue?
back to the issue i have here.. i ordered a deflector and still waiting for it... but what i tried out today was while the gear is on N i throttled the engine to 2500rpm with the AC on and just in two minutes or so, the engine temprature went up to around 3/4 the gauge at which i released it.. then the temp went down to half..
is this normal or is there something wrong? the fans are working and the radiator is full of water.. |

"while the gear is on N i throttled the engine to 2500rpm with the AC on"
You did that with the vehicle standing still, or rolling? |
Re: deflector issue?
Today I did this while it was still...
The same happens while the car is running |
Re: deflector issue?
If the fans are running during this revving test and the temp continues to climb (it might go up a little), then you either have an airflow issue across the radiator or you have a water flow issue in your cooling system. Could be a system that has some clogs or the water pump impeller is slipping on it's shaft and not providing good flow.
