So yes the engine is getting rebuilt. My father-in-law is a mech. He is stepping me through rebuilding it myself. Making it a keepsake for me.
As far as labeling it SS i don't want the thing labeled as anything.
People act so stupid when you think someone is tring to make it a fake SS.
I only used the "SS" name in my opening request to emply that i want it to be as close as i can. If anyone else has anything constructive to tell me about changing it over i would very much appreciate it.
To the people that want to down the idea of changing it the way i want. you can just elect to keep stupid comments to yourself.

Thanks

Well....I understand the sentimental value of it being your first car and all. Therefore, if I were you, I wouldn't want to change anything about it. I'd want it to be exactly how it was when I got it, pretty much. If you're able to, why don't you just keep the RS and buy an SS or Z28? It'd be cheaper for you to get a Z28 and then modify that to be an SS. (Without the emblems, of course )

Re: Converting a 96 RS to a SS

i don't understand this. you want to keep the car because of the time you put in it (<makes sense) but you want to clone it an ss, hence starting your project all over? you would obviously have to get rid of the "sniper body kit" and "lambo doors" if you wanted to truly clone an ss. for the money that you could get out of your car, and the money that you plan on putting in it, you could buy a z or ss and probably still have money left over for go-fast goodies. maybe i don't understand?

Whats Wrong With Badging It As An Ss?

You Could Always Do What Im In The Process Of Doing.
I Actually Spoke With Street Legal Performance ( Slp )
And There Rep Told Me That If I Was Confident That All The Slp Correct Parts Were Already On The Car, That I Could Possibly Set Up A Meeting With Slp And Actually Get My Own Ss Number For My Car Along With A Slp Cert And Signature

Do What Ever You Like It`s Your Car

Maybe you just don't...
I don't understand how people can spend time fixing thier cars making memories in them and then toss them because they don't want to make an effort to improve them. I could have got a z when i got the RS but i was in school and couldn't afford the v-8 and insurance. Now i don't need another car i got 3 already. The Camaro is no longer my primary means on transportation so it is now a project car.

oh alright i understand now. i thought that he was completely wanting to redo the whole thing and make it as close to a true ss as he could. nothing wrong with engine swap though (if you have the $$$)

I'm sure we can handle the money part, it's just finding the time to do it.

Still wouldn't be an SS, and would still be a ricey thing to do. Period.

Yup, a 400 HP guzzling V8 (Considering I modded the engine while it was out), throwing more tourque out than twice your weight, with a beautiful set up suspension system since I had the opportunity to replace it, perhaps easily a 12 second car, might even break into 11's with traction and a good suspension system... Sucks you in the seats everytime you tap the gas... Just a bowl of rice after you throw on those three emblems...

Oh well... I'd be one quick Ricer in that case....

Edit - OH btw... Check into your Kumho's, I think they're made in Japan... It might start a disease and uglify your car! You never know!

I completely agree with you if you don't buy the overpriced SS version then every thing else is inferior.
This Joe Brodman must own a whole lot of freakin SS's or you know maybe he helped design them or something...
It's doubtfull but, hey I mean, to have such a profound opinion on the matter. He must have some insight in the car that i guess we don't..
Personaly I am not having any label pertaining to the version of car it is, on mine. I am simply putting Chrome Superman emblems on mine to go with the embroidered interior.
Hey but i am sure it can't possibly be as nice looking or as clean as a stock 96 Camaro SS. I mean my body kit the interior are crappy compared to TWO capital S's on the side of a stock version of a chevy camaro.
Ignorance is bliss!

SLP tries to avoid SS clones by requiring the VIN# from a SS when ordering many SS parts. And even then why pay to put all those parts in after market instead of just buying a SS?

As for possibly getting a SS number on a car years later... I see SLP leading you on to buy their equipment then at most giving you a piece of paper that in short says your car is great and is number 1 of 1 because they say so but not issuing a actual SS number.

As I am sure this post changes no ones opinion, I am at least glad the people wanting to make SS clones in this thread are wanting ALL the equipment not just the hood. I have seen too many V6 SSs.

I WILL BE MAD IF YOUR RIGHT ABOUT THE SLP THING

ALL I HAVE TO GET IS THE REAR SPOILER PAINTED AND THE BRAKES AND IM THERE. WELL EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT THE CAR IS STILL A LT1.
IM NOT GOING TO CHANGE THAT, I LIKE THE LT1 I GOT.

YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE NUMBER THING, BUT THEY WILL GIVE ME THE DOOR STICKER ASWELL AND THAT ALONE SHOULD HELP ME WITH RESALE WHEN IT`S TIME, ( WELL I HOPE IT DOES ANYWAYS )
