Thumbs up Convertible top replacement instructions? Mods this is a tough one.

I searched long and hard and could not find a lot of good information about how to replace the convertible canvas etc in our cars. I have the Chilton manual and it doesn't tell anything... I looked on here and the only almost helpful info was a thread on here pointing another member to lsitech.com which is a violation.. right? Well I still did not find any information so I am back ehre where I know people answer...

Any good info about replacing the convas on a 95 convert. is it hard? What is involved and what are some of the tricks to make it easier?

I am going to be doing this sometime soon. You can find some generic instruction by google searching plus most on-line sellers also provide generic instructions.

Most all rag tops install the same way using glue, staples and fasteners. The only trick is to ensure that the fabric is properly stretched and aligned.

If you are mechanically savvy go for it, if you typically do not like to work on cars then I would avoid it.

How the hell is someone pointing someone to a different forum a violation? LS1tech has a great forum for vert owners so you should check that place out anyhow.

I think most people actually have body shops install the tops as well.

I used to work at a body shop but I can't find any instructions on installation of a convertible top, no real pictures of somone who did it. not even a tools list or instructions going through the process. where to start etc. nothing lsi has nothing as well. I dont need to know how to spray my top to avoid birds crap on it. I need to know how to get this thing off my car and back on. I can do almost anything myself so this would probably be easy but I can't take it apart and leave it apart. it has to be done in one day. I can't find out I need some weird fastener or glue after the fact. Why is there NO information about convertibles????? this is nuts!

This is ridiculous. Go to your favorite search engine, type in: c o n v e r t i b l e t o p s.

Just rip out the damn thing and wear a rain coat. Might even shave a few tenths off your time slips.

I know how you feel. I had my rear window panel done about 5 yrs. ago and it's slit again. I figured I'd do the whole top this time, as it's looking kind of worn. Also it's all stretched out, so it bulges when it's up.
Do you like the Wolf Roll bar? Did it fit well?

the wolfe roll bar (chromoly) is awesome I got it without the extra jigs for the 6 point or 8 point. I know my convertible isnt going to be seriously raced or flipped so I wanted somthijng slightly functional and also not abstructive for girls and fun in the car... That kind of helps z28sorr but it isn't specific just like I said. tehre are no manuals, tear downs or walk thoroughs for a camaro convertible top replacement. you look for t-56 swap guides and they are everywhere. what about convertibles???

I got a new top on my '95 TA about a year ago. I wanted to do it myself because I am also pretty mechanically inclined. After doing some research I decided it best to just pay the money and have someone experienced to do it. So,I made an appointment, took it to a local upholstery shop, waited two days, paid $530 and left with a sexy new top that was fitted perfectly and very well done. It's not really a one day job, definitely not for someone without much experience.

I swapped a 5 speed into my truck in the middle of January with 6" of snow on the ground in my driveway (because it is lifted). Can't speak from experience of a T56 swap.

Wink

ok I am goign to look into going to this shop down the street. they gave me a quote of $1000 for the whole top and everything installed but I already ordered the top and back glass piece.. I just need the headliner inside redone. I was thinking of that awesome synthetic suede that they make now. That would rock.

That's not a bad price. I bought my top online for $440ish and paid I think $530 to have it put on. After tax and shipping and stuff I had like $1,050 in it all said and done.
