Cleaning PCV Valve of 1998 Z28

Since the 98 PCV is difficult to remove, can I just remove the hose attached to the engine (several inches away), and spray through the hose with engine carburetor cleaner fluid?

Thanks!

If I understand the question correctly, you want to take the vacuum hose off the intake manifold, and spray solvent down the hose, into the PCV valve, in the middle of two hoses above the passenger side head.

Not likely to do a very good job of cleaning the valve. The valve has springs that make it, in effect a 2-way check valve, that opens in response to intermediate vacuum level. Solvent will just fill up the hose, and possible never go through the PCV valve. Additionally, any oil gunk buildup is going to be on the end of the valve opposite the vacuum line, and that part may never see solvent.

Only sure way to clean it is to pull the valve out of both hoses, and soak it in solvent, or spray BOTH ends with solvent. Shake it to remove excess solvent, and to be sure the little disc inside is moving back and forth freely.

Thanks for replying!

The valve is still working with good suction. I just want to replace or just clean it.

I am thinking now to use Sea Foam.

Just for some additional info related to Sea Foam, here is a YouTube Video that ChrisFix did that gave good results on testing of Sea Foam on a Honda Civic Si.
He has tested a lot of Brand Name cleaners, and so far this is the only one that works.

The video is titled Does Seafoam Actually Work in a Car? (with Proof)
