Catback vs Muffler: Which is Louder?

I have a Magnaflow muffler on my car now, but I want to move up to a catback.

My question is, will the Magnaflow catback be louder than the muffler I have on my car right now?

Louder = better, IMO.:cool:

well if they are the same muffler, than there should be no real noticable change in noise level

if the mufflers design (internal) is different...than the sound will be different.

hard to say

Well going from stock piping to larger madrel bent, plus maybe even stainless steal pipes, you might notice a tone difference, not neccesarily an increase in loudness...but SS pipes are really nice to have:D

It sounds like if I move up to a Magnaflow catback I'll spend $600 for it and installation, still have the same sound and pick up like 6 ponies.

What's a good flowing, moderately priced catback with a nice sound?

You know, you could get it off Ebay for a little over $300 and install youself. Nothing special is required, except the cutting of the stock I pipe.

Also, I kinda doubt the 6hp quote. Youd simply be going from a 2.75" Stainless I pipe to a 3" stainless I pipe. Both are mandrel bent.

And if you email one seller or the other, and tell them you don't want a "free" catalytic converter, but are wondering what their lowest price might be after shipping, you'll get it for well under $300. ;)

In my opinion, cutouts are more functional than anything else. They're good at the track for a few quick HP, but too loud to just drive arond town with.

How's the Dynomouth setup and what exactly is it?

If I bought a hi flow muffler and cat and did not go to 3" what kind of power increases would I have and how much would the 3" pipe help. I am not planning on getting headers and I will only be doing a few mods like cai, shift kit, 2400 stall, tranny cooler, tune, and other cheap mods. With these mods will 3" make a difference?

i had mine open for 3 weeks, just closed it for the first time a few days ago......its back open...sounds so good imo. I drive 40 minutes on the highway one way to work and no complaints here, you get used to it.

Off topic, but where in Nebraska are you from? I'm on the western side of nowhere (Chadron). :)
