Camaro turned into a water fountain

was checking the water today in my 97 LT1 Camaro, and after adding water and after the engine warmed up the water pump started squirting water out of the engine!

anyway, i need a new pump now.. and i have three options

1. no stock (GM/AC Delco) parts available here.. so i will have to go a cheap replacement... or

2. order a stock online which will make it really expensive for international shipping

3. Order an Electrical water pump.. been looking at the WP118HD from Meziere.

what should be best? i've been thinking a lot about the Electrical pump... but some people here say that going electrical is kind of a risk because if power is lost for any reason.. the engine could get fried.. how reliable are the electric pumps?

I personally don't have one, but there are plenty of members on here who have been running them for years with no issues.

You will want a relay kit too

I replaced the fuse holder on this relay's power lead for a more reliable one tho. The cheap plastic fuse holder melted. That seems to be the weak point on this relay kit.

Be advised that some pumps move more water than others. I believe mine is rated 32-35 gpm. I just looked at one on Summit Racing that is rated 55 gpm.

It is about $100 more than the one I am using.

I do NOT have any overheating issues, and with my style of driving it seems to work fine. A mechanical pump will move ALOT more water at high rpm than an electric pump,, but will not move as much at lower rpm. There is a horsepower benefit to using an electric pump. Your engine is not being robbed of power to drive that pump at higher rpm.

If you are concerned about losing power to the pump and being unaware, then you could install a light inside the car to indicate that power is getting to the pump.
