Burning oil, need help

I know it's normal to burn a little, but I have burned about two quarts in less then two thousand miles. What is the most likely cause? I am pretty sure it's not leaking. TIA

Geez man...two quarts in less than 2k miles? I mean I usually am only 1/2 quart low after 5k...yours is def. not normal.

Are you sure it isn't leaking? Are you getting any smoke...maybe you're burning it? Maybe blowby...but two quarts?

What is blow by?

I bought some additive stuff that will hopefully help, if not I guess I will have to take it in. :(

Is it OK to mix synthetic and dino oil? They are the same brand and weight, didn't realize I bought dino oil until I put it in.

Re: Burning oil, need help

I doubt any additive will help...not that much of an oil loss at least. I've personally used Auto-RX and it reduced my consumption from .5 qt/3k to .5qt/5k miles.

You'll be fine mixing the two together. Sort of defeats the purpose but you aren't hurting anything.

Good explanation of blow-by...

No signs of leaks...spots of oil on the floor of the garage...?

Does your car blow blue smoke under some acceleration? If so, does it go away after it warms up to operating temperature? If it goes away, then you have bad valve seals, if it stays present, you got ring problems. If it does not blow any smoke, you need to hunt down that leak. ;)

Re: Burning oil, need help

Not blow by then, I have smoke comming out of the tailpipes mostly at start up. Looks like my wallet is going to take another hit. :(

Thanks for helping me out guys, love the wealth of info. :)
