well i am going to be doing the front brakes on my car and i wanted to know how hard it is. I have done brakes on other cars before just not this car so i am not familiar with them. Can anyone let me know what tools i will need along with any tips or tricks. I am going to buy new rotors and pads for the front.
Thanks,
Fred

If you've done brakes before there is nothing trivial about these. You'll figure it out once you get started. Basic hand tools will get the job done. It's not hard.

Agreed with above. All you need really is a rachet and maybe a screwdriver, as long as you have done brakes before you will be fine. It should take a little less than 20 mins all said and done

Just make sure you have a good c-clamp. It comes in handy when doing brakes as you probably already know. I would say I had the easiest time changing F-body brakes then compared to other cars. Just make sure you clean the pistons as best you can with some brake cleaner to avoid squeaks.

You'll need a c-clamp, 3/8ths (pretty sure thats the size) hex key/socket and a screwdriver (to get old pads off easy) Theres 2 bolts holding each caliper on, take them off then pull the caliper off (might need to use a hammer gently.) Recompress the piston with the old pads on there then take old pads off and replace with new. Put calipers back on and pump the brake before you drive unless you want to crash.

brakes are simple i did my pads and rotors in like half hour and im not even remotely into mechanics.

i always put on new rotors-they wear out real quick. i had to replace the factory ones at 13k.
easy job (especially if you have an air rachet :-) -good luck

Actually he has an ls1. ls1's dont use hex keys/sockets.
go to installuniversity.com or whatever it is they have a writeup for ls1 brakes. at first I thought they were the same till I had to run to home depot for our 3/8th hex socket. =)

Nice thread and just in time, too...I have rotors and pads on the way for my Z28, also. So, I was kinda curious about some the stuff concern the install process on these. Basicly, all good advise so, it shouldn't be all that bad to perform the front brake/rotor job. Where I can get reid of the warped rotors on the Z.

Don

For pads i go with Jegs usually, cheapest price on Hawk pads, for rotors, usually go with blank oem's from strauss when they have 20% off which is like every other week. hehe.
