96 SS Series I and Series II suspension?
I was trying to read the SCCA SOLO II rulebook about classes. I found one notation where one of the factors in determining the class the car would run in was whether the 96 - 02 Camaro SS came equipped with Series I or Series II suspension. I am unaware of what this is. Does anyone know what is included in these packages?

Re: 96 SS Series I and Series II suspension?
I believe this should be the correct information:
Level I - 35 mm front sway bar - 21 mm rear sway bar - 3/4" drop springs - front spring rate: 223-448lbs/in - rear spring rate: 97-136 lbs/in Level II - 32mm front sway bar - stock rear sway bar - 1/2" drop springs - front spring rate 300-450lbs/in - rear spring rate 115-185 lbs/in All 96-97 SS's came with Level I unless they were optioned with the level II or level III suspension package. If you have it, it should be on the option sticker on your door. Hope this helps. |
Re: 96 SS Series I and Series II suspension?
Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I really appreciate the info. I know this car is lower than a normal Camaro. Obviously, a lot of people swap springs so that isn't a big indicator. But I do know that the front sway bar is 32 mm. Maybe mine is a series III. Is there any way to identify the springs? I took it out to it's first autocross last weekend. I am sure of one thing. It corners much flatter and quicker than my 97 Z4C Camaro Z28. My 97 felt like a barge by comparison. And I know the shocks on the 96 SS are way beyond needing to be replaced. Interesting. Any idea what the option code would be? Thanks.
